Pat Lepera scored his third goal of the season and is now tied for the Horizon League lead, and is third in points with seven (3G, 1A).
Adam Bedell notched his first goal of the season in the eighth minute to take a first half lead against Irvine.
A History Lesson
Detroit leads the overall series against Buffalo, 5-2-1, earning wins in four of the last six meetings, including head coach Nicholas Deren's first win in a 3-1 victory in 2009.
With Canisius, UDM leads the overall series 6-2-0, but has dropped two of the last three games against the Golden Griffins. The last win for the Titans came in 2007 when they downed Canisius, 4-0.
DA Bulls
Buffalo is 1-2-1 this year and is coming off two shutout losses to Binghamton (Aug. 31), 2-0, and Siena (Sept. 2), 1-0. The Bulls are led in scoring by junior Richard Cravin with two goals while senior Maksym Kowal has the lone game-winning goal in a 2-1 decision over St. Bonaventure on August 28.
On the defensive end of the field, the Bulls return senior goal keeper Jonathon Viscosi. He finished as the top goalie on the team last year and has a goals against average of 1.18 in four games this year.
Golden
Canisius is off to it's best start in 36 years with a 2-0-2 record and is third in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Atlantic Regional Poll. The Golden Griffins went undefeated at the Panther Invitational as they defeated Eastern Illinois, 4-3, on August 31 and IUPUI 2-1 on September 2.
The Golden Griffins have the conference's leading scorer and this week's MAAC Player of the Week in senior Gavin Falconer. Falconer has compiled five points (2G, 1A) while sophomore Asani Samuels is tied for the team lead with two goals. In net, the Griffs feature 6-3 senior Kareem Gray, who has started all four games for Canisius, notching one shutout and is fourth in the MAAC in goals against average (1.12) and save percentage (.800).
The Golden Griffins will host Western Michigan on Friday before playing Detroit on Sunday at noon.
