NORTHVILLE, Mich. (9/8/2012) --
Senior Katrina Oberski was the top Titan for the second-straight week as the Titan women's cross country team recorded a third-place finish at the 26th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational. The 5k race was held at Cass Benton Park in Northville.

“I thought Katrina ran a great race,” said head coach Guy Murray. “Zeinab (Baydoun) and Sarah (Martinez) also ran well and the weather held off making it a great day out on the course.”

The Titans totaled 90 points on the day.

Oberski was ninth overall with a personal best run of 19:06, 24 seconds ahead of her previous career best set at last year's National Catholic Invitational. She was also just three seconds away from posting a top-five mark in the event.

Senior Sarah Martinez was the second Titan to cross the finish line and she also posted a career best with a time of 19:46 for 27th. The run was 12 seconds better than her previous 5k mark, which was at the Greater Louisville Classic in 2011.

Sophomore Zeinab Baydoun was 29th in 19:54 as she led Martinez for much of the race before the upperclassman overtook her towards the end.

Senior Olivia Smid and junior Rachel Hofsess were in next for UDM as Smid posted a 20:38 time for 38th and Hofsess a 20:45 for 39th.

Bucknell won the race with 18 points. The Bison are coached by Titan alum and former Detroit women's cross country head coach and the founder of the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational Kevin Donner.

The day began with a pair of open 5k races for the men and women followed by the ever-growing 1.5-mile middle school race. Tommy Titan was also on hand once again as he took part in the Tommy Titan Future Legends Kid's Race as children 9 and under ran the final hill (200-meters) against the lovable mascot.

The men's open 5k was won by Matt Fecht for the fourth year in a row as the 2012 Olympic Marathon trial competitor also took 6th in the men's collegiate 4-mile. In the women's open 5k, former Titan standout Andrea Karl was 11th in a time of 19:14.

Detroit will return to action on Friday, Sept. 14, as the red, white and blue take part in another tradition by competing in the National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame. The women's race will start at 4:15 p.m., while the men's race will begin at 5 p.m.
