Detroit fell in its HL opener on Tuesday at Green Bay as the Phoenix defense forced the Titans out of their offensive rhythm all game long.

Sophomore Shareta Brown still leads the Horizon League and is second in the nation in scoring at 24.6 ppg., while also ranking second in the country in field-goal percentage (62.2%). Senior Yar Shayok is third in the HL in rebounding at 9.8 per game, while freshman Rosanna Reynolds sits tied for ninth in the conference with 3.5 assists per game.

Cleveland State began its conference season with an overtime 73-69 win on the road at UIC on Wednesday. The Vikings have won eight of their last nine games, including a seven-game winning streak at one point, and enter the game at 9-5 (1-0 HL).

CSU has played seven home games so far posting a 6-1 record. Senior Shalonda Winton was a preseason First Team All-League selection and is second in the league in scoring (21.9), rebounding (11.1) and assists (4.6).

THE UDM-CSU SERIES
The Detroit Titans have owned the all-time series with a record of 34-11, including a three-game sweep of the Vikings last year. Last season, UDM ousted CSU in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championship, 79-43.

Detroit is 13-8 all-time on the road, but had lost four in a row in Cleveland before last year's 50-43 victory during the regular season.

ABOUT THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State (9-5, 1-0 HL) was picked to finish fifth in the Horizon League preseason poll, but the Vikings rebounded from a 1-4 start by winning eight of their last nine games, including a seven-game winning streak.

CSU has played seven home games so far posting a 6-1 record, and opened its conference season on Wednesday with a 73-69 overtime road victory at UIC.

Senior Shalonda Winton was a preseason First Team All-League selection and is second in the HL in scoring (21.9), rebounding (11.1) and assists (4.6). Cori Colman is second on the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg., while Kiersten Green is tallying 9.4 ppg.

NO. 1 VS. NO. 2
The Titan-Viking match-up will have the top two scorers in the Horizon League going head to head in Detroit sophomore Shareta Brown (24.6) and CSU senior Shalonda Winton (21.9).

It could be a long game too as both players get to the line a lot with Brown leading the HL with 135 trips to the charity stripe, while Winton has gone to the line 130 times, second in the conference.

COACH RAD NEARING A MILESTONE
Head coach Autumn Rademacher has 69 career wins at Detroit, just one away from tying Sue Kreszewski (1977-80) - the first coach in Titan history - for third in the school record book.

Fred Procter (1990-96) leads UDM with 93 career wins, while DeWayne Jones (1983-90) is at 91.

When Coach Rademacher took over her alma mater in 2008, UDM was coming off back-to-back last-place finishes in the HL and had just 11 total wins from 2006-08.

In her time, Detroit has posted two winning seasons, a 20-win campaign, four-straight years with a conference tournament victory and a trip to the WNIT in 2012, the first postseason action for UDM since the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

BROWN AMONG NATION'S LEADERS
Sophomore Shareta Brown is second in the country in scoring at 24.6 ppg., trailing only Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers (26.1).

Brown is also second in the nation in field-goal percentage (62.2%).

The only Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Brigid Mulroy back in 2010 as she was first in three-point field-goal percentage (50.5%).

OTHER NATIONAL RANKINGS
Senior Yar Shayok is 49th in the country pulling down 9.8 rebounds per game, while as a team, UDM is 18th in the nation in field-goal percentage (45.5%) and 35th in rebounding (41.2).

#WHAT CAN BROWN DO 4 YOU
Sophomore Shareta Brown's offensive game has her among the nation's leaders as she is currently second in the country in scoring at 24.6 points per game and field-goal percentage (62.2%).

Brown broke the Titan school record with 43 points in a game against Lourdes on Dec. 10, and added her fourth 30-point game of the season -and the sixth of her career - with 34 points at IPFW on Dec. 18. Her six 30-point games are tied with Cassandra Pack (1983-87) for the most in school history.

Her 43-point outburst is tied with IPFW's Amanda Hyde for the highest in Division I.

In fact, with her 35 at home against Western Michigan and 34 at Eastern Michigan and at IPFW this season, she now has the top four scoring marks in the Horizon League and four of the top 25 scoring efforts in NCAA Division I this year.

Also, her 13-of-15 effort (86.7%) from the field against Madonna on Dec. 22 is the second highest field goal percentage in the NCAA this year behind Christiana Shorter of Missouri State's 90.9% (10-of-11) mark vs. Oral Roberts.

YAR 17TH PLAYER TO REACH 1000
Senior Yar Shayok made history at South Florida on Dec. 31 as she became just the 17th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.

Shayok now has 1,005 career points, and is chasing Mary Lillie (1978-82) and Katie Solner (2002-06) for 16th (1033) and 15th (1038) place, respectively, in the Titan record book.

The fifth-year senior – who redshirted after playing just two games as a freshman due to a foot injury – is averaging 7.7 points this season and 9.1 points per game in her career.

She also has 980 rebounds and is looking to become just the second player in school history with 1,000 points and rebounds.

GETTING TO 70
The Titans are 32-6 when they score 70 or more points - and 10-1 when they score 80 or more - under head coach Autumn Rademacher.

DOMINATING THE BOARDS
Detroit has outrebounded its opponents in 12 of its 13 games - including six times by double digits - and currently owns a + 7.9 rebounding margin, good for first in the Horizon League and 35th in the nation.

UDM dominated the boards against #6/7 Penn State with a 46-31 advantage. UDM also completely owned the boards versus Canisius (44-28), WMU (49-36), at Ohio (48-37), against Lourdes (42-25), and versus Madonna (48-26).

Last season, Detroit won the battle of the boards in 23 of its 34 games, including 11 times by a double-digit margin.

SENIOR PRIDE
After coming off the bench for most of last season - and making the most of it by earning the HL Sixth Player of the Year - senior Yar Shayok has transitioned back to the starting line-up in great form.

She is currently first on the team and third in the Horizon League in rebounding (9.8), which includes six double-digit efforts.

She grabbed a season-high 15 against Lourdes and also had 10 rebounds against #6/7 Penn State.

The 11 caroms at South Florida marked the 44th time in her career that she has pulled down at least 10 boards in a game.

ROSIE THE PLAYMAKER
Freshman Rosanna Reynolds has taken over the point guard duties for Detroit and leads the team with 45 assists, with her 3.5 apg., tied for eighth in the Horizon League.

She is also seventh in the HL with a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio, and never really comes off the court averaging 35.8 minutes per game, fourth among her conference pers.

Reynolds has seven games with four or more assists with a season high of six against #6/7 Penn State and against Madonna.

She also collected her first career double-double with a career-best 17 points and 10 rebounds versus the Crusaders on Dec. 22.

In terms of scoring, Reynolds has six double-digit efforts on the year, and is third on the squad in scoring at 9.2 ppg.

GETTING TO THE LINE
Detroit is third in the Horizon League with 266 free throw attempts as well as third in the HL converting on 175. UDM's 65.8% at the free throw line is fourth in the league.

UDM has gone to the line at least 20 times in eight of its' 13 games, making a season-high 21 against Lourdes and at South Florida, the most since Detroit hit 29-of-35 at Green Bay in last year's win over the nationally-ranked Phoenix.

Meanwhile, sophomore Shareta Brown leads the HL with 135 trips to the charity stripes and 93 made free throws, with her 68.9% tied for 11th.

WE OWN THE PAINT
With its two highly-skilled post players in senior Yar Shayok and sophomore Shareta Brown, and its' guards ability to get inside, Detroit is currently outscoring its opponents, 432-262, in the paint on the year.

During the 2011-12 campaign, Detroit owned a 1042-638 advantage in points in the paint.

LOOKING TO START A NEW STREAK
Sophomore Shareta Brown was held to just eight points her last time out at Green Bay, snapping a streak of 32-straight games in which she had scored in double figures.

The last time she did not net double figures was on Dec. 31, 2011, when she had eight in a win over Valparaiso.

In her career, Brown has scored in double figures in 43 of the 47 games she has played in, and is averaging 19.8 ppg. She already has 931 career points and is on pace to becoming the quickest Titan to reach 1,000.

OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Not to be lost in the Titans' offensive games has been the play of the defense.

UDM has held an opponent to under 60 points in eight of its' 13 games, with the only four teams to score more in regulation a pair of Big Ten programs in Michigan (70) and Penn State (80), the BIG EAST's South Florida (74) and Green Bay (62), while Ball State had 73 in overtime, but just 57 in the first 40 minutes of action.

The Titans have also forced opponents to shoot under 40% 10 times, including three dominant defensive efforts.

Detroit held the Broncos to just 27.5% shooting as WMU was 19-of-69 from the field and 3-of-14 from behind the arc, and forced 19 turnovers - 15 in the first half.

Against Lourdes, the Titans held the Gray Wolves to 17-of-56 from the field and forced a season-high 22 turnovers, while versus Madonna, UDM saw the Crusaders shoot just 27.9% hitting just 17-of-61 shots.

NON-CONFERENCE WINS
The Titans ended the non-conference regular season with seven non-league wins, the most since they had eight during the 2000-01 campaign.

The seven wins are also a complete turnaround from last season's 1-8 start in non-conference play, although UDM did win its final three in the regular season, which jump started a streak of 19 wins in 23 games.
