The Titans have played 11 of their first 15 games away from Calihan Hall this season. In fact, the last time UDM was home, Santa Claus was still three days away from working as Detroit drubbed Madonna, 90-43, on Dec. 22.
The Titans, who come into the game at 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League, have won 10 in a row at home - the 16th longest streak in the nation - and will have gone 374 days without a loss in Calihan Hall at tip time.
Sophomore
Shareta Brown is currently leading the nation in field-goal percentage (61.3%) and is second in scoring (24.0), and is coming off a 25-point, 16-rebound effort at Wright State. Freshman
Rosanna Reynolds netted a career-high 20 points, while senior
Yar Shayok posted her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the 86-76 road win at WSU.
Loyola has struggled so far and comes into the contest at 6-10, 1-2 in the Horizon League. The Ramblers have split their last four games with their lone conference victory a 52-44 road victory at Valparaiso.
Three Ramblers are averaging double digits in scoring, led by sophomore Simone Law at 13.6 ppg. She is also eighth in the HL in scoring and fourth in rebounding (9.3). Monica Albano is second on the team in scoring at 12.7 ppg., most of which comes from the outside as she tops the conference with 41 three-pointers. Freshman Taylor Johnson – the reigning HL Rookie of the Week – is third on the squad with 12.7 ppg. LU did have another player in double figures in Patrice King (10.2), but she is currently not with the team.
Loyola leads the league in steals (10.8) and is second in blocks (3.4) and turnovers (11.8).
Thursday's game is the start of three in a row at home with UIC visiting the Motor City on Saturday. That will be “Ladies Afternoon Out” with the Titans offering a special Buy One, Get One FREE for all ladies.
THE DETROIT-LOYOLA SERIES
Loyola – a fellow Jesuit institution in Chicago – is Detroit's longest current rival as the two teams have met 66 times and at least once every year since 1983. UDM has dominated the all-time series, 46-20, having won three in a row and 10 of the last 11 meetings with Loyola.
Detroit is 24-6 all-time at home against the Ramblers, including winning six of the last seven match-ups in the Motor City, with the only setback an 88-77 overtime contest in 2011.
BATTLE OF THE HL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The game is a showcase of this week's Horizon League Players of the Week as UDM's
Shareta Brown was the HL Player of the Week, while Loyola's Taylor Johnson was the Newcomer of the Week.
Brown posted a game-high 25 points and a season-best 16 rebounds with five assists in the Titans' road win at Wright State.
Johnson had two double-doubles with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists at Valpo and 22 points and 11 boards against WSU.
BROWN STILL #1 IN THE NATION
Shareta Brown still tops Division I in field-goal percentage (61.3%) as the NCAA released its weekly stats this past Monday.
Brown is also second in the country in scoring at 24.0 ppg., trailing only Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers (24.6).
The only Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Brigid Mulroy back in 2010 as she was first in three-point field-goal percentage (50.5%).
Brown was fifth in the NCAA in field goal percentage (55.9%) last season.
OTHER NATIONAL RANKINGS
Senior
Yar Shayok is 46th in the country with 9.9 rebounds per game.
As a team, UDM is 15th in the nation in field-goal percentage (45.2%), 31st in rebounding margin (7.1), and 41st in scoring (70.9) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0).
HEY CUZ
Titan junior forward
Megan Hatter and Loyola sophomore forward Molly Crosby might know a thing or two about each other as they are cousins.
IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME
Detroit has played 11 of its first 15 games away from Calihan Hall and has not been home since defeating Madonna, 90-43, on Dec. 22, a span of 34 days.
The 11 away contests in the first 15 games are the most to start a season for UDM since Detroit had just three home games in its first 16 at the start of the 1998-99 season.
A RUDE HOST
UDM is 4-0 at home this season and has won 10-straight games on Dick Vitale Court dating back to last year.
The 10-straight wins in the Motor City is currently the 16th longest in the nation and the most for UDM since it won 10-straight during the 1996-97 campaign, and that was during head coach Autumn Rademacher's senior year.
The school record is 17 consecutive victories, which was rolled up during the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.
In Detroit's history, the Titans have compiled six home winning streaks of 11 games or more.
MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC
Over a longer stretch of time, the Titans have posted a 16-3 ledger in their last 19 home games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign.
Detroit was 11-3 at home last season and is now 31-11 in their last 42 home games after defeating Madonna at home on Dec. 22.
UDM is also 39-22 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.
In 35 years of play in the Motor City, the Titans have enjoyed a 267-143 (.634) home court record.
COUNTDOWN TO 1,000
Sophomore
Shareta Brown is currently 29 points away from becoming the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Brown has scored 971 points in just 49 career games - an average of 19.8 ppg., - and is on pace to become the quickest Titan to post 1,000 points as that honor currently belongs Detroit's all-time leading scorer Cassandra Pack, who notched that feat in her 57th game.
SHE'S BACK
Junior
Senee Shearer made a successful return to the court starting at Wright State and playing 31 minutes, finishing with seven points on a pair of 3-pointers. Shearer even got UDM on the board nailing the game's first shot - a stark contrast from last year when she missed her first 16 three-point attempts.
Shearer helped the Titans to a 20-win campaign and a trip to the Horizon League Championship last season, but tore her ACL in the title game after scoring 14 points in the first 23 minutes.
She finished second on the team in scoring at 11.1 ppg., last year and was third in the conference in three-point field goals (75) and third in the HL and 59th in NCAA in three-point field goals per game (2.27). Her 75 3-pointers on the season also ranked second all-time on the Titan single-season list.
YAR LOOKING TO MOVE UP
Senior
Yar Shayok made history at South Florida on Dec. 31 as she became just the 17th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.
With 12 points at Wright State her last time out, Shayok now has 1,032 career points and trails Mary Lillie (1978-82) by just one for 16th place (1,033) and Katie Solner (2002-06) by six for 15th place (1,038).
The fifth-year senior – who redshirted after playing just two games as a freshman due to a foot injury – is averaging 8.5 points this season and 8.9 points per game in her career.
SETTING IT UP
Detroit had 23 assists at Wright State with three players coming away with five assists in
Shareta Brown,
Rosanna Reynolds and
Demeisha Fambro, a new career high for the senior.
REYNOLDS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE FREE ONE
Freshman
Rosanna Reynolds started the year 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the free throw line in her first six games, but has now made 17 of her last 19 (89.4%) at the charity stripe.
On the year, she leads UDM in free-throw percentage at 75.8%.
COACH RAD MAKING HISTORY AGAIN
She did it as a player, but with the Titans win at Wright State last week, head coach Autumn Rademacher moved herself up in the record books tying Sue Kreszewski (1977-80) - the first coach in Titan history - for third place with 70 wins.
Fred Procter (1990-96) leads UDM with 93 career wins, while DeWayne Jones (1983-90) is at 91.
LONG RANGE TITANS
With the return of junior
Senee Shearer, the Titans set a season high with 11 three-pointers at Wright State their last time out.
The 11 treys were the most since UDM hit 11 against Youngstown State on Jan.28, 2010.
Prior to the game, Detroit was 15 for its last 68 from behind the arc.
The 29 attempts in the game against WSU were also the second most taken this year following the school record 31 at Ball State.
REYNOLDS IN THE 20'S
Freshman
Rosanna Reynolds joined sophomore
Shareta Brown with a 20-point game against Wright State by tallying a career-high 20 in the win.
Reynolds connected on a season-high 8-of-10 from the field with a pair of three's and also tied for the team-high with five assists.
Her previous season high was 17 points at Madonna on Dec. 22.
HIGH-OCTANE OFFENSE
The 86 points at Wright State last week marked the fifth time this season that Detroit has scored 80 or more in a game.
Also, the 41 points in the first half was the fifth time the Titans have posted 40 or more in the first 20 minutes on the year and the 10th time it has happened in either half.
Detroit tops the Horizon League in scoring at 70.9 ppg., as well as field-goal percentage (45.2%).
OFF THE BENCH, YAR FEELING STRONG
Senior
Yar Shayok has come off the bench the last two games and the results have been quite impressive with a pair of double-doubles and a season high in points.
At Cleveland State, she netted a season-high 15 points along with 10 rebounds, while at Wright State, she recorded 12 points, 11 boards and four assists.
Her 15-point effort at CSU was the highest she has scored since posting 17 at Youngstown State on Jan. 22, 2011.
In her last two games, she is averaging 13.5 ppg., 10.5 rpg., and 2.5 apg.
YAR ETCHES HER NAME IN SCHOOL RECORD BOOK
Senior
Yar Shayok is currently second in school history with 1,001 rebounds, and unless she has one of the greatest rebounding years in NCAA history, she will leave UDM in second place behind Cheryl Williams (1,368).
With that said, she is only the second Titan to post 1,000 points and rebounds in their career behind only Williams.
In her career, she is averaging 8.9 rebounds and has 46 games with double-digit rebounds, including 17 as a redshirt freshman and 16 as a sophomore. She pulled down 10.2 rpg., as a sophomore, a number that ranks fourth among the single-season records at UDM.
LENDING A HAND
UDM came away with 23 assists in its win at Wright State, the third time this season the Titans have had 20 or more assists in a game and the fifth time they have had 15 or more.
While scoring 101 points against Lourdes earlier in the year, Detroit racked a season high 26 assists, the most since it posted 27 in a 93-56 win over Wright State on Jan. 29, 1998.
Detroit is currently second in the Horizon League with 15.1 assists per game.
ROSIE THE PLAYMAKER
Freshman
Rosanna Reynolds has taken over the point guard duties for Detroit and leads the team with 52 assists, with her 3.5 apg., ninth in the Horizon League.
She is also fifth in the HL with a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Reynolds has eight games with four or more assists with a season high of six against #6/7 Penn State and against Madonna.
She also collected her first career double-double with a career-best 17 points and 10 rebounds versus the Crusaders on Dec. 22.
In terms of scoring, Reynolds has six double-digit efforts on the year - including a season-best 20 points at Wright State - and is third on the squad in scoring at 9.6 ppg.
BACK IN DOUBLES
Senior
Demeisha Fambro reached double figures for the eighth time this season and in back-to-back games with 15 at Wright State. That came on the heels of her 10-point outing at Cleveland State.
She had a streak of five-straight games in double figures earlier in the year and is averaging 9.9 points - second on the team - on the season.
During her streak of five-straight games in double figures, she had a season-high 18 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, while tying her career-best with nine rebounds against WMU, and followed that with 17 at Ohio - where she had a personal 9-0 run that got Detroit back in front and sparked a 22-3 spurt.
GETTING TO 70
The Titans are 33-6 when they score 70 or more points - and 11-1 when they score 80 or more - under head coach Autumn Rademacher.
