Game Notes
DETROIT (10/11/13) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team will host Horizon League member UIC on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. ET. The match will be the second of a doubleheader with the UDM women's soccer team as the Titan women host Green Bay in an Horizon League matchup at 1 p.m. ET.

Started From The Bottom Now We Here
The Titans were selected to finished fourth in the 2013 Horizon League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season, Detroit was selected to finish dead last, but ended the season being crowned Horizon League regular season champions for the first time since 2005 after defeating UIC 2-1.
Last Time Out
The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team got its second consecutive nonconference win defeating Bowling Green, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Cochrane Field after falling behing 1-0 early in the first half.
On his first shot of the match with just 41 seconds remaining, freshman
Zachary Atwood broke off a Falcon defender before sending a laser past the keeper about 20 yards out for his first collegiate goal and the equalizer just before the half.
With four minutes left in regulation and after having several opportunities on goal earlier, senior captain
Adam Bedell put his mark on the evening as the Livonia, Mich., native knocked in the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.
Comin' In Hot
In the Titans previous three matches it has been the bench to provide the spark for UDM. In two consecutive matches against IPFW and Oakland, it was
Jason Leslie to enter the match and put the Titans on the scoreboard. In the Titans most recent match versus Bowling Green, freshman Zach Atwood entered the game and broke off a Falcon defender for the equalizer and his first collegiate goal in the 44th minute.
Bedell's Finding His Groove
Adam Bedell, the 2012 Horizon League Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, finished last season with 11 goals, five assist and 27 points.
However, to begin the 2013 season the senior captain was having a tough time finding the net despite getting seven shots on goal on 17 shots through the first five games of the season.
Since a 20 yard free kick found the back of the net against Buffalo, Bedell has scored six goals goals in the last six games games for the Titans, including two mutli-goal games against Buffalo and IPFW. Currently, Bedell is ranks third in the Horizon League in both goals (6) and points (15).
STOP! In The Name of Sarge
Steinwascher was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after his performances against Cornell and Robert Morris. Referred to as "Sarge" by his teammates, junior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher has retaken command of his net.
Through eleven games, Steinwascher has placed himself in the top 20 in two different categories nationally. Through Oct. 6, the junior goalkeeper is tied for 15th in the nation in saves per game (5.40), while tied for ninth in total saves (54).
Lucky 13
There will be plenty of new faces on the field for the 2013 Titans, 13 to be exact. Detroit will add 13 newcomers to this year's squad, with 12 of the 13 new additions hailing from the home state of Michigan and a lone ranger from Missouri.
Scouting UIC
The UIC men's soccer team endured its first overtime match of the season Tuesday evening at Flames Field while facing Eastern Illinois. After being down one goal, senior Slobodan Aleksov netted a pass from junior Jesus Torres in the 87th minute, and came back in double overtime to score again in the 104th minute to advance the Flames to a 2-1 victory over the Panthers.
The Series with the Flames
Detroit currently holds a slight edge over UIC in the all-time series 10-8-3. These two squads met last season in Chicago, Ill. where the Titans defeating UIC 2-1 to clinch the 2012 Horizon League regular season championship.
On Deck for the Titans
UDM will battle in-state Western Michigan at home on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. ET before heading to Wisconsin for a Horizon League match with Green Bay on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
