STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (10/18/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team had a pair of runners in the top seven as the Titans earned third at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday.
Junior
Ryan Hofsess was the team's top runner on the day as he edged senior teammate
Martin Nelkie by four seconds to take sixth in 26:45. Nelkie had finished as the Titans top harrier in all four races heading into this one, but ended up seventh in 26:49. For Nelkie, his time was nearly a minute better than his 27:44 tally at Penn State that he posted as a freshman in 2010.
Detroit recorded 64 points in the 5.2-mile race run at the PSU Blue & White Golf course, the longest race of the year for the team.
The times by the two Titans also rank second and third, respectively, in the history of Titan runners at the Penn State Course.

Austin Wigent was 13th in 27:41 while sophomore
Derek Gielarowski earned 15th in 27:48.
Senior
