STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (10/18/2013) --
Senior Louisa Coppola led four runners with sub 24 times as the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team placed seventh at the Penn State National Invitational on Friday.

The 6k race was held at the PSU Blue & White Golf Course as the Titans totaled 178 points in their longest distance race of the year.

Coppola set a new personal record with her fourth top-10 finish of the year running 21:52, three seconds faster then her NCAA Great Lakes Regional time from a year ago. It is also the seventh fastest 6k time in school history and she will enter the Horizon League Championship as UDM's top runner in all five races, which have all been a top-14 effort.

In her first 6k as a member of the Titan squad, senior Ciara Curley-Poppe was 38th in 23:25 as she was the second Titan in for the third-straight race. Junior Sara Taylor posted a career-best with a run of 23:37 for 42nd, eclipsing her previous best of 23:53 at last year's NCAA GLR.

A pair of freshmen were next in their 6k collegiate debuts as Devon Sutton claimed 44th in 23:43 – her fifth race of the year that she was in the top three on the team - while classmate Samantha Zakalowski finished 47th in 24:11.

Junior Zeinab Baydoun came back strong after missing the last race at Louisville clocking a 24:29 for 54th and senior Torrie Eger took 66th with a 25:26 effort.

The Titans will now get ready for the Horizon League Championship in two weeks hosted by Youngstown State on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Boardman High School in Boardman, Ohio.
