DETROIT (10/30/2013) --
All 11 Detroit players who suited up scored as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team ran all over city-rival Marygrove College, 96-33, on Wednesday night in an exhibition game dubbed the "Battle of McNichols". It was the second-straight year that UDM defeated Marygrove in the preseason winning 125-35 last year.

Senior Senee Shearer led all scorers with 17 points while senior Megan Hatter had 13 points and seven rebounds in just 18 minutes. Sophomore Tayelor McCalister recorded 10 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals while freshman Minisha Frederick-Childress ended with 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three helpers.

The "Battle of McNichols" started with some friendly activities this past Sunday as the two teams got together for a community service project to clean up the mile stretch of McNichols Road that separates the two campuses.

The Titan defense was the catalyst right from the start forcing Marygrove to miss its first 13 shots from the field in opening a 16-2 lead. Detroit actually scored the game's first 14 points as junior Ellisha Crosby and Shearer had the offense going with Crosby – who finished with nine points and nine rebounds - putting in seven early points, while Shearer had five.

Detroit continued to rev it up against the Mustangs going on a 13-3 run to extend its advantage out to 27-5 at the 7:22 mark. UDM would eventually end the half up 37-13 as the Titans held Marygrove to just 6-of-32 from the field (18.8%) and forcing 20 turnovers.

It was more of the same in the second half as Detroit started the stanza with a 14-2 explosion for a 51-15 lead at the 15:10 mark. Shearer had eight in that stretch with a pair or treys and two free throws.

Another long run and it was truly a knockout for the red, white, and blue as a 15-3 spurt gave the home team an insurmountable 66-18 lead with 11:30 left as the Titans cruised to the 63-point victory.

Freshman Haleigh Ristovski tallied eight points and eight rebounds, while redshirt sophomore Brie Wilcox and freshman Lizzy Connors each had eight points apiece off the bench. Freshman Reyna Montgomery added four points, six boards, and five assists, while rookie Megan Galloway totaled five points and five rebounds and freshman Tayla Gibb also contributed with a basket and three caroms.

The defense held Marygrove to just 20.6% shooting as the Mustangs were 13-of-63 from the floor. The Titans also caused 38 turnovers with 19 steals and Marygrove didn't help its cause going 5-for-19 at the free throw line.

UDM put up 78 shots in the game and pulled down 67 rebounds, including 26 offensive.

The Titans will now have 10 days to get ready for the official start of the 2013-14 season, which will begin against Jesuit-rival Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y., on Friday, Nov. 8. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., at the Koessler Athletic Center.

The home opener is set for Nov. 11 with a Detroit basketball doubleheader as the women host Lawrence Tech at 5:00 p.m., followed by the men taking on UM-Dearborn at 7:30.

Season tickets for the 2013-14 are now on sale. Don't miss a chance to have guaranteed priority seating to watch the Titans at Calihan Hall. For more information on season and general ticket information, CLICK HERE or call the Detroit Ticket Office at (313) 993-1700.
