Gameday Central
Game Notes vs. Ball State

DETROIT (11/22/2013) --
It will be a busy weekend at historic Calihan Hall with seven games in three days, including the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team squaring off with Ball State on Saturday morning. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m., on Dick Vitale Court.

Titan fans can follow every UDM game this season through the women's basketball GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase photos and game tickets. The Game Day Central page also carries all the information on each opponent from who is leading the all-time series to who won the last game.

The Titans are looking to end a three-game slide as they come into the contest at 1-4, but the last few games have seen Detroit play a bit shorthanded without the services of a couple of players. Despite that, UDM was able to put up 86 points at Western Michigan and play relatively tough against No. 21/19 Michigan State on the road. Senior Senee Shearer leads the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game, while junior Ellisha Crosby is tallying 15.2 ppg., and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per night.

Detroit is 3-2 all-time against Ball State and 1-1 in the friendly confines of Calihan Hall. UDM and the Cardinals are meeting for the fourth-straight year.

The game is in the midst of a tournament weekend at Detroit with the men hosting the 2K Sports Classic Benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project with a pair of games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

THE DETROIT-BALL STATE SERIES
This will be just the sixth meeting between the two schools with Detroit owning a 3-2 mark in the all-time series, including winning two of the last three games.

UDM is 1-1 in the Motor City against the Cardinals dropping a game in 1987 and defeating BSU, 78-60, in 2010.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ball State was 17-16 last season and 12-4 in the MAC, but the Cardinals are off to an 0-3 start with losses to nationally-ranked Purdue, Pittsburgh and Evansville. The setbacks to the Boilermakers and the Panthers were by just six and five points, respectively.

Brittany Carter leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game. Nathalie Fontaine tops the team on the boards (7.7) and is second in scoring at 13.0 ppg., while Shelbie Justice runs the offense with 4.0 assists per game and is adding 9.7 ppg.

BSU was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West Division Preseason Poll, while Fontaine was named to the All-MAC West Division Preseason Team.

A DETROIT CONNECTION
Head coach Ray McCallum of the Titan men's basketball team is a graduate of Ball State and one of the best players in school history as well as serving as head coach at his alma mater for seven years.

He was also the first Ball State athlete to have his jersey retired in any sport.

EARLY WAKE UP CALL
The Titans will play a game before Noon for the second-straight year as Detroit cruised past IPFW on the road last season, 88-58, in an 11:30 a.m., start.

AGAINST THE MAC
The Titans' game against Ball State is the second of four games against current members of the Mid-American Conference.

Since head coach Autumn Rademacher took over the reins as the Titan leader in 2008, UDM is 10-8 against the league – and 9-5 in its last 14 games.

VERSUS THE HOOSIER STATE
Detroit has done a fine job when it comes to taking on teams from Indiana as UDM is 74-48 all-time against schools from the Hoosier State.

A RUDE HOST
The Titans might have dropped their last home game, but UDM was 16-1 at home last season - averaging 76.6 ppg - with a +16.6 scoring margin. In fact, Detroit's 16 home victories were tied for the second most in the nation with Kentucky trailing only North Carolina's 17-1 mark.

The 16 wins were also a school record breaking the 13-0 mark of the 1986-87 squad.

MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC
Over a longer stretch of time, the Titans have posted a 28-5 ledger in their last 33 home games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, as well as 43-13 in their last 56 home games.

UDM is also 51-24 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.

In their 37-year history, the Titans have enjoyed a 279-145 (.657) home court record.

ID PLEASE
The Titans will be extremely young this season with six freshmen and nine underclassmen in uniform and even younger with sophomore Rosanna Reynolds sidelines.

UDM also has two other players who have played just one collegiate season as they begin their junior year academically, and just two seniors dot the roster in Senee Shearer (85 games, 51 starts) and Megan Hatter (92 games, 52 starts).

In fact, if you look at the entire roster, Shearer and Hatter's 177 combined career games played are 32 more than the total of everyone else who has played in college at any level: Rosanna Reynolds (37), Ellisha Crosby (35), Tayelor McCalister (23), Brie Wilcox (15), DaVonna Bradford (11), Lindsey Connors (5), Minisha Frederick-Childress (5), Reyna Montgomery (5), Haleigh Ristovski (5) and Megan Galloway (4).

YOUNG'INS
Just to follow up on the young Titans, Detroit started two freshmen at Michigan State in Lizzy Connors and Megan Galloway.

In fact at a few times this year, UDM has had four freshmen and a first-year transfer on the court during certain stretches of games.

SHE'S A SHOOTER
Senior Senee Shearer poured in a game and career-high 29 points against Western Michigan on Nov. 14, going 9-of-17 from the field, 4-of-9 from three and 7-of-12 from the charity stripe.

The 29 points eclipsed the 24 she had at WMU as a sophomore and it was also her ninth career 20-point game.

ELLISHALICIOUS
Junior Ellisha Crosby continued her strong start to her Division I career with her second double-double of the season tallying 24 points and a career-best 12 rebounds at Western Michigan on Nov. 14.

She was 10-of-23 from the field.

Her collegiate high is 25 as a freshman when she was at Cornerstone in a game against Northwestern Ohio in 2011.

With her team-high 13 points against Michigan State, Crosby has now led he team in scoring twice this season and is second on the team in scoring (15.2), while leading the team in rebounding (7.4).

SHEARER NOW TOP 7 IN 3'S
With a pair of 3-pointers at Michigan State, senior Senee Shearer now has sole possession of seventh place on the Titan all-time list with 147 career trifectas.

Shearer is just 13 away from sixth place and Brigid Mulroy's ('10) 160.

She will have a chance at the top spot trailing Titan head coach Autumn Rademacher '97 by 54 (201) for second and school record-holder Michelle James '02 by 70 (217).

HAT'S OFF TO YOU
Senior Megan Hatter tied her season high for the third time this season with six rebounds, while chipping in five points against nationally-ranked Michigan State.

She is currently second on the squad in rebounding at 4.4 per night.

OK GALLOWAY
Titan freshman Megan Galloway did not play in the season opener at Canisius and saw limited minutes against Lawrence Tech, but the rookie forward did her job when her number was called at Western Michigan.

Galloway tallied six points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes - all in the second half - and also had the first and only block of the year for the Titans.

She earned her first career start against Michigan the following game and is coming off a four-point, five-rebound effort at nationally-ranked Michigan State.

QUICK OFFENSE
Junior Brie Wilcox showed no quit in the Titans' 80-41 setback at No. 21/19 Michigan State as she had a career-high five points in the final three minutes of the game, which included hitting her first career 3-pointer.

A BOUNCE IN HER STEP
Sophomore DaVonna Bradford has been putting in some quality minutes ending with four points, three rebounds and two steals in just 16 minutes at Michigan State.

RISTOVSKI CRASHING THE BOARDS
Titan freshmen Haleigh Ristovski did her job on the glass against Michigan, leading the team with eight rebounds in the game against the Wolverines and her sister - UM sophomore Madison Ristovski - on Nov. 16.

She also had four boards in limited time at Michigan State.

She also handed out three assists in just 24 minutes of action.

The rookie is now third on the team with 4.2 rebounds per game and has nine assists on the season against just one turnover.

MY BALL
Detroit has forced 88 turnovers through the first four games, with 26 against Lawrence Tech and 21 in the season opener at Canisius.

The 26 turnovers were the most by an opponent since Jan. 31, 2009 when Wright State committed 32.

UDM also has 46 steals in that span with 14 against Lawrence Tech. The 14 thefts were the most since taking 14 against Cleveland State in the quarterfinals of the HL Championship in 2012, a 79-43 win.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Last season's Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) Championship was the first postseason tournament win for Detroit since 1981 when the Titans beat Michigan, Wayne State, and Oakland in the State-Large College Tournament.

THANK YOU FANS
Detroit's attendance of 2,156 against Michigan on Nov. 16 was the largest since 3,218 fans came to see UDM upend Green Bay, 56-50, in overtime on Jan. 24, 2004.

ON THE DL
Sophomore Rosanna Reynolds will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury early in the game at Western Michigan.

Reynolds was selected to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team last year after starting all 34 games and averaging a team-high 35.3 minutes per game, tallying 7.8 points – fifth on the team – along with 3.3 rebounds, and a team-high 4.0 assists per game (135).

She also finished fifth in the Horizon League in assists (120th in the nation), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), and minutes played.

Also, sophomore Tayelor McCalister missed Detroit's last game at Michigan State and is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

IT'S TAY TIME
Tayelor McCalister had a fine start to her sophomore year posting career highs in nearly every statistical category in her first four games.

In Detroit's last game against Michigan, McCalister was in double figures for the fourth-straight game with a career-high 14 points to go with a career-best six rebounds and tying her career and season high with four assists for the third time.

On Saturday versus the Wolverines, she was 7-of-9 from the field and that was after a 6-of-13 effort at Western Michigan, where she tied her career mark with four steals.

In the season opener at Canisius, she finished with 11 points four assists and had 10 points, four assists and four rebounds against Lawrence Tech.
