CHICAGO (2/21/13) -
Junior Senee Shearer led four Titans in double figures, but Detroit could not slow down a run and gun Loyola squad as the Ramblers defeated UDM, 91-81, on Thursday night at Gentile Arena.

The loss drops Detroit to 14-9 overall and 7-4 in the Horizon League, a game behind Youngstown State for second place (18-6, 8-3 HL), while Loyola improves to 11-13, 6-5 in conference play.

Shearer tied her season high with five 3-pointers for the third time this season, while senior Yar Shayok ended the game with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the year. Sophomore Shareta Brown posted 13 points and nine boards and senior Demeisha Fambro netted 16 on the night.

Detroit trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, but the resilient Titans cut that to four at one point. Detroit just could not close the gap as it turned it over 22 times leading to 27 points off turnovers for the Ramblers.

The Ramblers scored the first five points in the second half to take their largest lead of the game, 39-26, with 18:23 left. A minute later, they led 41-28 before the Titans trimmed that to just five, 47-42, with a 14-6 run. Freshman Rosanna Reynolds and Shearer each had treys, while Fambro had two triples during that spurt.

UDM could not keep that momentum going as Loyola ran its lead back to double-digits, 53-42, at the 12:51 mark, but the Titans charged back with a 10-3 spurt to get within four. Shearer had five in that run with her last bucket a three to push the Titans within 56-52 with 10:10 left in the contest.

Detroit though could not slow down the Ramblers as the home team regained a double-digit lead at 66-56 and at 68-58, the latter with 4:40 remaining, but the Titans fought back and cut that to six, 69-63. That was as close as the red, white and blue would get with Loyola once again taking control and extending its advantage to double digits in the final two minutes.

The Titans shot just under 50% hitting at 49.2% in the game and outrebounded the Ramblers by 10, 39-29. Detroit also nailed 10 treys in the contest, but the Ramblers outscored UDM 27-8 off turnovers and 24-6 on fast-break points en route to shooting 52.5% from the field.

Reynolds ended the game with nine points and three assists, while junior Megan Hatter tallied five points and five rebounds. Shayok also had three helpers and two blocks.

The Titans got off to a fast start as Shearer had five early points and Brown's first basket gave UDM a 7-2 lead. Detroit later extended that to six, 10-4, on a 3-pointer from Fambro and then led by as many as seven, 20-13, midway through the first half as Brown and Shayok had back-to-back layups.

Loyola would roar back with a 21-6 run over the final 8:58 to take a 34-26 lead at the half. The Ramblers were able to get back in it forcing 11 Titan turnovers in the first stanza – seven in the last nine minutes – and turning those into 14 points, while connecting on four triples during that stretch.

The Titans will look to split its Chicago trip on Saturday when they face UIC in a game slated for an 8:00 p.m. (ET) tip.

Game Notes:
Detroit still leads the all-time series, 47-21…It was the most points given up since Detroit fell at Wright State, 91-83, last season… Loyola's 32 field goals were the most given up by UDM since the Ramblers had 34 in an overtime win at Detroit in 2011…UDM had 31 field goals, the seventh time this season it has made at least 30 in a game… Detroit's 10 3-pointers were also the second most on the season behind the 11 the Titans hit at Wright State back in January… The 22 turnovers were the most since #6/7 Penn State forced 25 back in November… It was the 10th game on the year that the Titans have recorded 15 or more assists…The double-double was Shayok's 29th in her career…Shearer moved past Tia Winters (1997-02) and into ninth place in school history with 108 3-pointers, and is just four away from eighth place and Catie Goodard (2002-06)…
