DETROIT (2/26/13) -- Junior guard Jason Calliste's layup in the closing seconds gave Detroit a 76-75 victory over Loyola Tuesday on Senior Night at Calihan Hall. The win clinched the No. 2 seed for the Titans in the upcoming Horizon League championship and a double-bye into the semifinals.

Detroit (19-10, 11-4 Horizon) can still win a share of the HL regular season with a win in its final conference game at UIC and a Valparaiso loss at Green Bay on Saturday.

Junior Ray McCallum led UDM with a game-high 22 points, while senior Nick Minnerath added 21 points and seven rebounds and fellow classmate Doug Anderson pitched in with 14.

Detroit was down by one, 75-74, with only nine ticks left when head coach Ray McCallum called a timeout. UDM inbounded the ball to Calliste and the junior was primed to take the game-winning shot, getting down the court and in the paint, where he made a layup with less than one second to go.

The Titans led by as many as 11 in the game, but a pesky Loyola (14-15, 4-11 Horizon) squad – playing without two starters – fought back and had a four-point lead, 69-65, with 4:14 left. A jumper by Minnerath and two free throws from Calliste tied it, but the Ramblers jumped ahead again by three, 72-69, with 2:18 remaining.

The two seniors Anderson and Minnerath led the charge back as Minnerath found Anderson streaking to the basket for a layup to cut the deficit to one and then after a Loyola miss, Calliste found Minnerath wide open for a triple, igniting the Calihan Hall crowd and giving Detroit a 74-73 lead with 1:18 left.

The Jesuit rivals from Chicago refused to go away and went back in front, 75-74, with only nine seconds left, before the Titans called a timeout to set up the winning play.

The game was back and forth early on, but the visiting Ramblers opened a three-point lead, 28-25, at the 7:32 mark in the first half. That is when the Titans came together with a 14-0 run over the next three minutes to take an 11-point advantage, 39-28, eventually taking a 42-33 lead at the break.

UDM continued to take the lead and was ahead by nine, 56-47, with 12:22 remaining when the Ramblers went on a 12-2 spurt to take a 59-58 lead. Detroit would take a three-point lead on two occasions in the next two minutes before Loyola reclaimed the lead and pushed it to four, 69-65.

Prior to the game, the Titans honored Anderson and Minnerath on Senior Day, bringing the families of both elder statesmen out on the court for a rousing ovation. UDM also honored longtime fan Reggie Hall with UDM's John Conti Letterman of Distinction Award.

Loyola – who shot 53.1% and outrebounded the Titans 36-34 - had five players score in double figures with Jordan Hicks scoring 20 to lead the Ramblers.

Detroit will now get ready for a non-conference contest at Temple on Thursday, Feb. 28, in a game that will be on ESPN3. The match-up – set for 7:00 p.m. - was originally set for late December, but weather forced it to be moved. The Titans final conference game will be on Saturday at UIC, with tip set for 2:00 p.m. (ET).
