DETROIT (2/28/2013) --
Detroit pushed ahead three times in the second half, but 15 Green Bay triples were just too many to overcome as the No. 21/23 Phoenix downed the Titans, 71-63, on Thursday night in Calihan Hall. The loss put an end to Detroit's 15-game home winning streak, which was tied for the seventh longest in the nation.

Junior Senee Shearer had 15 points to lead UDM, while sophomore Shareta Brown had nine points and seven rebounds. Senior Yar Shayok chipped in 10 and pulled down five boards, while senior Demeisha Fambro tallied nine points, five assists, four steals, and four rebounds.

UDM (14-11, 7-6 HL) trailed for most of the first half, but rallied from an eight-point deficit to take the lead on three occasions in the second. Freshman Destiny Lavita-Stephens' 3-pointer with 8:31 left gave Detroit a 48-47 lead, but Green Bay (23-2, 13-0 HL) answered with a 17-4 spurt over the next four minutes on the strength of four treys to jump ahead, 64-52.

The Titans did have one final push left in them as they cut the Phoenix advantage to four, 66-62, with 1:06 remaining. Detroit used a pressure defense and a balanced attack to get back in it as Shearer had four points and Brown, Fambro, and Shayok each had two apiece.

Green Bay did not allow the Titans to get any closer as the Phoenix closed out the game to extend its winning streak to 18-straight.

Detroit shot 46.7% and forced 14 turnovers. The Titans also just edged the Phoenix on the glass, 28-27, as freshman Rosanna Reynolds had a team-high eight rebounds.

The Phoenix was led by Megan Lukan's 20 points on six 3-pointers, while Sarah Eichler had four treys and ended with 12 points and six assists. Green Bay shot 44.4% in the game and was 15-of-36 from behind the arc.

UDM got behind early as Green Bay opened a 9-2 lead a little more than four minutes into the game. The Titans then posted seven-straight points, the Phoenix answered with nine-straight to go up 18-9 at the 11:37 mark.

Detroit tried to trim that down and closed to within four, 18-14, but once again, Green Bay extended its lead to as many as eight, 24-16. Back-to-back baskets by Brown and freshman Rosanna Reynolds pulled the red, white, and blue back to four, 24-20.

Later on, the Titans got closer as Shearer nailed a triple to make it 26-23 and then after a Phoenix bucket, Lavita-Stephen connected from long range and UDM was behind by just two, 28-26, with 1:18 left. Lavita-Stephens then split a pair of free throws and Detroit trailed 28-27 at the break.

In the first half, the Titans kept Green Bay on the perimeter as the Phoenix had 20 three-point attempts out of its 27 shots, hitting six of them, including 5-of-7 early in the half. UDM also forced nine turnovers in the stanza.

The Titans will look to end a three-game losing streak on Saturday when they face Milwaukee at 2:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day and FREE ADMISSION to all fans as Detroit honors its two seniors in Fambro and Shayok prior to the start of the contest.
