DETROIT (2/6/2013) -- There is still nine games left in the regular season, but a battle for second place will set the stage on Thursday as the Titans travel to face Youngstown State. Game time is set for 5:15 p.m., at the Beeghly Center.

Detroit has won five in a row as UDM heads to YSU with a 12-7 record, including 5-2 in the Horizon League. The Penguins are 15-5 on the year and also 5-2 in the conference.
The Titans won their fifth straight in come-from-behind fashion as they erased a 12-point first half deficit to defeat Milwaukee, 61-59, on the road last Saturday. Junior
Senee Shearer had a game-high 19 points, including 14 in the second half, as she hit five 3-pointers. Sophomore
Shareta Brown tallied her eighth double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while senior
Yar Shayok added 12 points.
Youngstown State was picked to finish eighth in the Horizon League preseason poll, but the Penguins are off to their best start in more than 15 years. Senior Brandi Brown currently sits third in the Horizon League in scoring (19.9) and tops the conference in rebounding (11.3). Sophomore Heidi Schlegel is second in scoring with 10.5 ppg., while freshman Shar'Rae Davis leads the HL with 4.7 assists per game.
Youngstown State is second in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 56.2 ppg., and is also third in three-point field goal percentage (32.9%) and fourth in field-goal percentage (40.5%).
Following the game, Detroit will head right back to the Motor City as it hosts Valparaiso on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The game will put the finishing touches on the Titans' Annual Girls & Women in Sports Day. All girls ages 6-13 are invited to be part of an exciting schedule of events, which will start at 11:00 a.m. The day will feature a variety of sports clinics at Calihan Hall, where student-athletes from nearly all of UDM's varsity teams will provide skill instruction and hands-on demonstrations.

THE DETROIT-YOUNGSTOWN STATE SERIES
This will be the 31st career meeting between the Titans and Penguins, but by winning seven of the last eight games, Detroit leads the all-time series, 17-13. Last year, each team held serve by winning on its home court as YSU hit 15 treys to post an 80-67 win, while
Senee Shearer connected on a career-best six 3-pointers to lead UDM to a 67-64 triumph.
Detroit is 5-10 all-time in the Beeghly Center, but has won three of its last four times in YSU's home facility.
SECOND PLACE ON THE LINE
The Titan-Penguin showdown is a battle for second place as both Detroit and Youngstown State come into the game at 5-2 in league play.
Second place is of vital importance as the HL team that finishes the highest in the standings and does not make the NCAA Tournament receives an automatic bid to the WNIT.
BROWN #4 IN THE NATION
In the latest NCAA stats, released on Monday, sophomore
Shareta Brown continues to be among the nation's leaders in scoring and field-goal percentage.
Brown began the week fourth in the nation in scoring at 22.7 ppg., behind only Jerica Coley of Florida International (25.1), Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers, Georgetown (22.9) and Brittney Griner of Baylor (22.8).
She is also fourth in the country in field-goal percentage hitting 59.6%, trailing Stefanie Dolson of Connecticut (61.2%), Griner (60.1%) and Texas A&M's Kelsey Bone (59.8%).
The only Titan to ever lead the nation in a statistical category was Brigid Mulroy back in 2010 as she was first in three-point field-goal percentage (50.5%).
Brown was fifth in the NCAA in field-goal percentage (55.9%) last season.
OTHER NATIONAL RANKINGS
UDM has two players among the top 70 in rebounding as sophomore
Shareta Brown is 61st with 9.4 per night, while senior
Yar Shayok is 69th pulling down 9.1 per game.

Rosanna Reynolds is 77th with a 1.64 assist-to-turnover ratio.
As a team, Detroit is 10th in the country in field-goal percentage (45.6%), 26th in scoring (72.2), 28th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.05), 40th in rebounding margin (+6.2), 53rd in assists (15.2) and 68th in scoring margin (8.5).
The Titans are also top 100 in turnovers per game (39th – 14.5), 71st in personal fouls (14.9) and 84th in three-point field goals per game (5.8).
INSTANT OFFENSE
Since coming off the bench against Cleveland State on Jan. 12, senior
Yar Shayok has been an offensive weapon with double-digit performances in five of six games, a pair of double-doubles and a season-high 22 points against CSU on Jan. 31.
She started her offensive surge at Cleveland State with 15 points and 10 rebounds and came back at Wright State recording 12 points, 11 boards and four assists.
Her 22-point effort against the Vikings saw her shoot 10-of-14 from the field with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals and she also had 12 points and eight boards at Milwaukee.
In the last six games, Shayok is averaging 12.2 ppg., 7.5 rpg., 2.0 apg., and shooting 53.6% (30-of-56).
ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR YAR
Senior
Yar Shayok has collected 1,025 rebounds in her career, a number that ranks fourth in Horizon League history, trailing among others current Youngstown State senior Brandi Brown.

NOW THAT'S RUNNING THE SHOW
Freshman
Rosanna Reynolds has 15 assists in her last two games with a season-high nine against Cleveland State and six at Milwaukee.
Even more impressive is that she has the 15 assists against just four turnovers.
SHE'S A SHOOTER
Junior
Senee Shearer led Detroit with 19 points at Milwaukee, which included five 3-pointers, the most by a Titan this year.
She hit four of those treys in the second half and ended the game 5-of-14 shooting with all of those attempts coming from behind the arc.
HIGH-OCTANE OFFENSE
Detroit has scored 40 or more in the first half seven times this year, and 40 or more in either half on 13 occasions.
The 96 points versus Cleveland State on Jan. 31 was the most points scored by UDM in HL play since tallying 101 in a 116-101 setback at Butler on Jan. 30, 1999, and the most scored in a home conference game since defeating Wright State, 99-60, on Mar. 1, 1997, Coach Rademacher's senior season.
UDM also had 35 field goals in the contest against the Vikings, the sixth time this season it has tallied 30 or more in a game.
Detroit tops the HL in scoring (72.2) as well as field-goal percentage (45.6%).
SHEARER, FAMBRO APPROACHING TOP 10 FOR 3'S

Senee Shearer and senior
Demeisha Fambro are currently on the heels of putting their name in the top 10 in school history.
Shearer has 94 career triples, while Fambro is at 90 as both are nearing Terri Ford's (1986-90) and Katie Solner's (2002-06) 10th-place total of 95.
#WHAT CAN BROWN DO 4 YOU
Sophomore
Shareta Brown's offensive game has her among the nation's leaders as she is currently fourth in the country in scoring (22.7) and field-goal percentage (59.6%).
Brown broke the Titan school record with 43 points in a game against Lourdes on Dec. 10, and added her fourth 30-point game of the season -and the sixth of her career - with 34 points at IPFW on Dec. 18.
Her six 30-point games are tied with Cassandra Pack (1983-87) for the most in school history in a career.
Her 43-point outburst is tied with IPFW's Amanda Hyde for the highest in Division I.
CHASING HISTORY, AND EACH OTHER

Yar Shayok and sophomore
Shareta Brown are both 1,000 point scorers that rank in the top 16 in school history.
Shayok has 1,078 points and is currently in 15th place in school history, just 65 points away from Lindsay Pasquinzo (2002-06) and 14th place (1,143).
Meanwhile, Brown has 1,042 points for 16th place and is chasing both Shayok and Pasquinzo to move up even more.
FASTEST TO 1,000
Sophomore
Shareta Brown became the quickest Titan to ever score 1,000 points as she accomplished the task in her 51st career game at home against UIC on Jan. 26.
Cassandra Pack (1983-87) – the Titans' all-time leading scorer – reached 1,000 points in her 57th career game and as a junior.
BROWN OWNS RECORD, SHEARER IN FIFTH FOR NOW
Sophomore
Shareta Brown is the current school record holder in field-goal percentage at 57.4%, way ahead of Davida Boozer's (1980-83) 54.3%.
Junior
Senee Shearer also finds herself in fifth place in school history in free throw percentage at 75.9%, just behind Michelle DeHaan's (1992-94) 76.0% and Katie Solner's (2002-06) 76.5%.
GETTING TO 70
The Titans are 36-6 when they score 70 or more - including 8-1 this year - and are also 12-1 (6-0 this season) when they score 80 or more - under head coach Autumn Rademacher.
FAMBRO'S GOT GAME
Senior
Demeisha Fambro reached double figures for the 11th time this season and the fifth-straight game with 13 points against Cleveland State.
During this streak, she posted a season-high 20 points against UIC. That came after she had 15 at Wright State 10 at Cleveland State and 16 versus Loyola.
In her last five games, she is tallying 14.8 points on 49.0% shooting (25-of-51), including 52.0% from downtown (13-of-25).
She is currently averaging 10.9 points - second on the team and tied for 16th in the HL - on the season.
THE MAD HATTER
Junior
Megan Hatter finished with a season-high 11 points against Cleveland State and that was after scoring seven points for the second-straight game and tying her career high with nine boards against UIC.
In the last four games, she is averaging 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds, hitting 12-of-22 (54.5%) from the field.
