GREEN BAY, Wis. (3/15/2013) --
With a championship atmosphere rocking the Kress Center, the Detroit women's basketball team was able to hold off nationally-ranked Green Bay for a while, but UDM just could not complete the upset as the Titans fell 71-54 on Friday night in the Horizon League Championship Semifinals.

The loss drops Detroit to 17-13 on the year, while the win moved Green Bay to 28-2 and into the title game against Loyola on Sunday.

Junior Senee Shearer had 17 points to lead the Titans, while senior Demeisha Fambro netted 13 and came away with four rebounds and a team-high four assists. Sophomore Shareta Brown tallied nine points and a team-best nine rebounds along with three assists and freshman Rosanna Reynolds recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

It was high intensity right from the very start as both teams came out shooting, but Shearer's offense kept the Titans in it as she rattled off seven-straight points for UDM, but Detroit trailed early, 11-7. The red, white and blue did hold off the home crowd in the first half as back-to-back three's from Fambro tied it at 13-all and then another triple from Shearer had the Titans in front, 16-13, midway through the first half.

Green Bay came back to take the lead, 17-16, but junior Megan Hatter's layup had the Titans in front by one, 18-17, with 8:23 left in the opening frame. The Phoenix countered by outscoring UDM, 10-4, the rest of the way to put the Titans in a 27-22 deficit at the break.

A three by Reynolds to start the second half pulled Detroit within two, 27-25, and after a basket by Green Bay, two free throws from Brown had the Titans down just two again, 29-27.

An 11-3 run by Green Bay followed as the Phoenix opened up a double-digit lead, 40-30, with 16:37 left, but Detroit responded with two more free throws by Brown and a bucket by senior Yar Shayok to trim that down. UDM was then behind by six, 42-36, with 14:58 remaining, but Green Bay would start to distance itself, going on a 12-4 run to increase its lead to 54-40 at the 8:06 mark.

The Titans would get back within 10, 56-46, as Shearer was fouled from behind the arc and connected on all three from the charity stripe, but the Phoenix would not break, raising its lead to as many as 18 down the stretch.

The Titans shot 40.9% from the field and won the battle of the boards, 28-22, but Green Bay was able to shoot 47.7%, including 57.9% in the second half.

The Titans will now wait and see if their number is called for postseason play as all the postseason tournament fields will be announced Monday night.

Game Notes:
It was Detroit's 14th appearance in the Horizon League Championship Semifinals…Both teams combined for just four free throws in the first half and 31 in the second stanza… UDM fell to 5-48 all-time against ranked teams…Fambro passed Tia Winters (1997-02) for 10th place on the all-time 3-point field goal list with 108… Shayok broke the school record for all-time games played with 128, passing former teammate Jalesa Jones (2008-12)… Fambro is now fourth on that list with 122 games played… Brown is now just nine points away from breaking her Titan record of 611 points scored in a single season last year.
