EDISON, N.J. (4/30/2013) -- The semifinals and title game of the 2013 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship, which will take place May 3-5 at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College, will be carried live on ESPN3.
On Friday, May 3, the first semifinal features top-seed Marist College against fourth-seed University of Detroit at Mercy at 4:15 p.m. The second semifinal features second-seed Jacksonville University against third-seed Siena College at 8 p.m. The championship final will be on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m. In addition to the games being shown live, ESPN3 will also have the contests archived on their platform for 45 days following the championship.
“ESPN3 and the MAAC continue to grow our relationship, which now includes lacrosse, as well as the season-long basketball package and many events from ESPN's Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney Resort,” Rich Ensor, Commissioner of the MAAC, said. “This growth commitment was a key component of the MAAC's current 5-year strategic plan that targeted lacrosse as an upcoming sport of emphasis in the league and noted the need to develop opportunities for the sport.”
Time Warner Cable will handle the production of all three games for the championship. The championship final will air live on the local Time Warner Cable channel, while the semifinal contests will be rebroadcasted after the completion of competition Friday (live to tape).
"This collaboration between the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and ESPN3 is another exciting step forward for the MAAC Men's Lacrosse League and its championship event," Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher said. "The game of college lacrosse is growing in popularity, and the quality of play in our conference is on the rise as well. By being able to showcase the exciting growth of MAAC Lacrosse on ESPN3 is great for the sport, our member schools, the student-athletes and alumni everywhere. It is my hope this will become an annual tradition as we continue to look to improve our championship events."
The winner of the 2013 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship earns the league's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m., live on ESPNU.
