Richmond Kickers Release
RICHMOND, Va. (4/5/2013) -- Former Detroit soccer player
Nate Robinson will continue his soccer professional career as he recently signed a contract with the Richmond Kickers, an affiliate of the United Soccer League.
“I am very proud of Nate for what he has accomplished in his post-college years,” said Detroit head coach Nicholas Deren. “He always had a great work ethic, coming to me and asking to do some extra training with him and I am very proud for him and wish Nate success in the pro game.”
Robinson impressed at the Kickers 2013 Pro Combine, earning a professional contract after the three-day event. Over three seasons at the University of Detroit Mercy (2009-11) - he transferred from Cincinnati following his freshman year - Robinson tallied six goals and 16 assists, once earning Horizon League Player of the Week honors.
The Novi, Mich., native spent the 2012 season with the Michigan Bucks of the USL Premier Development League, helping lead the team to their PDL record 10th Great Lakes Division title, a PDL regular season championship and a U.S. Open Cup fourth-round finish.
Robinson started in the season opener for the Kickers this past Saturday in a draw against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Richmond will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 13, with a home game against the Charleston Battery.
“We have had guys with some sustained ability in pro leagues like Andrew Ornoch and Vahid Assadpour just to name a couple who have not only made the next level, but stayed and are still playing now and Nate has a chance to make that kind of impact with his hard work and dedication,” added Coach Deren.
