USILA/Lax World North-South Division I/II Roster
PERRY, N.Y. (5/23/2013) -- Just a few days ago, Titan LSM
Jordan Houtby became Detroit's first USILA Scholar All-American and now he added another school “First” to his collegiate resume with a selection to the North-South College All-Star Game.
The 72nd United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/LaxWorld North-South Games will be played at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., tomorrow, May 24. The Division III game will be played at 3:00 p.m., followed by the Division I/II game at 5:30.
The games will bring together 128 of the finest senior lacrosse players in the country for one final game to end their collegiate career in a tradition that began in the 1940's. Houtby - who will suit up for the South Team - is one of six MAAC players in the contest with the other five all playing for the North in Connor Rice, Ethan Fox and Jack Doherty of Marist and Siena's Matt Sharp and Danny Martinsen.
Houtby was a big reason why the Titans have experienced quick success, reaching the MAAC Championship in 2011 – just their third season of lacrosse – and then winning the title and advancing to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2013. He helped lead a defense that finished in the top three in the nation in caused turnovers all four of his years – including leading the country in that category in 2011 and 2012 – as he is the NCAA's all-time leader in caused turnovers with 158. He also picked up 289 career ground balls and scored 14 points with nine goals.
He was a three-time MAAC LSM of the Year, Second Team All-MAAC as a sophomore and a two-time MAAC All-Tournament performer (2011, 2013). He was also tabbed Detroit's Defensive Player of the Year twice (2010, 2013) and the Team MVP once (2011). He has been top 10 in the country in caused turnovers since his freshman season and was second in Division I as a sophomore and junior.
The first North-South College all-star game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, MD. The North squad, coached by Princeton's Bill Logan, won that inaugural event with a 6-5 victory over the South team coached by Maryland's Jack Faber. Sixty-six total games have been played with interruptions occurring only in With the exception of 1944 and 1945 the North/South games have been played each year without interruption.
In 1991, the USILA split the event and created two games, the Division I-II game and the Division III game. This two game format was interrupted in 2006 when a special committee of the USILA recommended returning to one game but combining all divisions. The following year, 2007, saw the return to two separate games.
