DETROIT (9/18/13) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team will play its third consecutive Friday-Sunday match when they welcome Buffalo on Friday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. and Canisius Sunday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m to Titan Field. The match on Sunday will be the first of a doubleheader with the UDM women's soccer team who take on the Stetson Hatters at 1 p.m.

The Titans were selected to finished fourth in the 2013 Horizon League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season, Detroit was selected to finish dead last, but ended the season being crowned Horizon League regular season champions for the first time since 2005 after defeating UIC 2-1.
Last Time Out
UDM suffered its first two losses of the season in the Missouri State Men's Soccer Tournament in Springfield, Mo. In the first match of the tournament, UDM was defeated by host Missouri State on a header as time expired in the final overtime period. In the following match, the Detroit held Dayton, the nation's No. 2 scoring offense, to just one goal in a 1-0 defeat.
Guess Who's Back?
Adam Bedell, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year is back for his final go round at Detroit. Last season, the six foot six senior midfielder had 11 goals, five assists and 27 points for en route to leading the Titans to a regular season Horizon League championship.
STOP! In The Name of Sarge
Steinwascher was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after his performances against Cornell and Robert Morris. Referred to as "Sarge" by his teammates, junior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher has retaken command of his net.
Currently Steinwascher sits at sixth in the country in total saves (33), and 13
th in the country showcasing a .909 save percentage. Through five matches Steinwascher has played 529 minutes, recorded 33 saves, posted two shutouts, and has given up only four goals.
Lucky 13
There will be plenty of new faces on the field for the 2013 Titans, 13 to be exact. Detroit will add 13 newcomers to this year's squad, with 12 of the 13 new additions hailing from the home state of Michigan and a lone ranger from Missouri.
Scouting Buffalo
The Bulls are coming off a 2-0 loss to Binghamton over the weekend, and are currently 0-4-2 on the season. Buffalo is led by a pair of young freshmen in Russell Cicerone, who has one goal on the season and Nicolai Berry, who has one goal of his own, but has accounted for every Bulls point on the year.
Scouting Canisius
The Golden Griffins are 2-2-1 in 2013 and coming off a 3-2 over Robert Morris. Sophomores Alex De Carolis and Nicolo Baudo have combined for four goals, two assists, and 10 points to lead Canisius into the match with Detroit.
The Series with Buffalo
This will be the 10th meeting between Detroit and Buffalo and UDM leads the all-time series 6-2-1. The two teams faced off against each other last season in Buffalo on Sept. 7, as the Titans walked away with a 2-1 victory. Detroit scored two goals in the second period within four minutes of each other and held on for the victory.
The Series with Canisius
Detroit leads the all-time series 6-2-1. However, during the last meeting in 2012 the Golden Griffins got the best of Detroit defeating the Titans 4-2 at Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
On Deck for the Titans
After plenty of traveling for Detroit, the Titans will begin Horizon League play on Saturday, Sept. 28 when Milwaukee travels to Detroit to face off on Titan Field. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
