LAST OUTING
Senior
Evan Bruinsma scored 15 second half points and
Juwan Howard Jr. pitched in 20, but it wasn't enough as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 77-63 contest to Youngstown State Saturday night at the Beeghly Center. The win was the Penguins first at home over Detroit since Feb. 7, 2008.
Howard finished 7-of-15 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line, while grabbing six boards. Bruinsma went 6-of-8 from the field in the second half and added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Detroit (8-12, 1-4 HL) trailed 51-47 with 9:30 left in regulation and had the opportunity to inch closer, but some untimely misses from the charity stripe followed by back-to-back three-pointers from Ryan Weber extended the Penguins lead to 10, 57-47, with 7:56 left. A put back dunk from
Ugochukwu Njoku trimmed the lead to eight, 57-49, but that was as close as the score would get as Youngstown State used a 14-5 run to build its largest lead of the game 71-45 with 3:35 left.
Detroit shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) overall, just 11.1 percent (2-18) from downtown, while Youngstown State finished shooting 54.5 percent (24-of-44) overall, including 45 percent (9-20) from beyond the arc. The Titans won the battle on the boards 29-26 and recorded six steals, but committed 10 turnovers, which resulted in 10 points for the Penguins, who dished out 20 assists on the night.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Jerran Young scored 19 points and Wright State rode a big first half performance to a 73-57 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Tuesday night at the Nutter Center.
Milwaukee (13-8, 3-4 HL) could not get its offense on track in the first half, as the Panthers shot just 25 percent from the field. UWM improved in the second 20 minutes, making 14-of-24 from the floor, but the Panthers could never get over the hump.
Kyle Kelm had 16 point and Jordan Aaron 15 for Milwaukee, which also got a strong, nine-point performance from Thierno Niang off the bench. The Panthers were slowed by foul trouble, as Matt Tiby, Malcolm Moore and J.J. Panoske sat much of the first half with two fouls. Moore eventually fouled out with nine minutes remaining, having only played eight minutes.
SERIES WITH MILWAUKEE
This will be the 41st meeting between Detroit and Milwaukee, with the Panthers leading the all-time series 21-19. Detroit has won the last three meetings, including an 82-74 win at the Klotsche Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The last time Milwaukee defeated the Titans at U.S. Cellular Arena was a 72-67 win on Jan. 28, 2011.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
Green Bay (15-3, 5-0 HL) was able to fly past Wright State on Friday night for a 79-69 victory and rally past UIC on Sunday for a 69-64 to extend its winning streak to 10 games. Senior Alec Brown averaged 23.5 points and shot 77.3 percent in the wins and on Monday was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the third time in 2013-14. Junior Keifer Sykes added 19.5 points per game, scoring 33 of his 39 points after halftime.
The 10-game winning streak for the Phoenix is the program's longest since winning 23 consecutive games in 1995-96. The team's 15-3 start is also the programs best since the 1995-96 campaign.

Both teams split at home last season with the Phoenix winning the last match-up 68-59 at the Resch Center.
