ANN ARBOR, Mich. (11/14/2014) --
Freshman Darianne Seward had a team-high 19 points in her collegiate debut and redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds tallied 17 in her return to the court, but a second-half run by Michigan was the difference as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team fell to Michigan, 76-57, on Friday night at the Crisler Center. It was the season opener for both squads.

Detroit led the Wolverines 37-26 at the half, but Michigan started the second stanza on a big run to jump out in front.

Seward ended the game 7-of-17 from the field with three assists and a steal as she got the start in her first collegiate game. Reynolds was 7-of-18, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc, and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski netted three points along with a team-high nine rebounds and a career-high five steals.

The game also featured a sisterly rivalry as Ristovski took on her older sister in Michigan junior Madison for the second-straight year.

The Titans started the game just the way they wanted to as Seward raced to the rim drawing a foul and hitting two free throws. The next time down the court, she connected on a basket for a 4-0 lead and Detroit made it 6-2 as Reynolds nailed a jumper.

Michigan came back to take the lead, 12-10, seven minutes in, but Detroit then scored seven unanswered as junior DaVonna Bradford connected on two free throws and Seward scored five-straight for a 17-12 advantage with 10:46 left in the half.

The Wolverines pulled to within two, 20-18, but Reynolds kept the momentum on Detroit's side by hitting a three. Michigan then got within one, 23-22, when the red, white and blue ended the half on a 14-4 run.

Senior Ellisha Crosby and Seward had baskets and after a UM bucket, Reynolds knocked down another trey for a 30-24 lead at the 6:10 mark. A Michigan field goal made it 30-26, but a 3-pointer from Crosby off a great pass from Seward and then a Seward layup gave the Titans a nine-point lead, 35-26. Sophomore Minisha Frederick-Childress then put an exclamation on the spurt with two free throws to put the Titans up 37-26 at the break.

Detroit was 12-of-26 (46.2%) from the field in the first 20 minutes and 5-of-10 from long range, while holding Michigan to 11-of-34 (32.4%) overall and 2-of-9 (22.2%) from three. UDM also outrebounded the maize and blue, 21-17, and forced 10 turnovers.

It was a different story in the second half as Michigan got off to a fast start going on a 21-2 run in the first seven minutes to reclaim the lead, 47-39. A Crosby layup made it a six-point game, but the Wolverines eventually opened a double-digit advantage and despite some tough play from the Titans, they were never able to cut it lower than 10 the rest of the way.

Crosby finished with seven points, six rebounds and a team-high four assists. Freshman Nicole Urbanick ended with five points and a board in her collegiate debut, while Bradford had two points, a rebound and an assist.

The Titans will now return to the Motor City for their home opener on Sunday as Detroit hosts Marygrove at historic Calihan Hall. Tip-off is set for Noon and all fans can meet the team after the game as UDM will have a postgame autograph session.

Game Notes:

Michigan now leads the all-time series 13-12 with its last win on the road in 2010… In last season's match-up, Michigan led 47-29 at the break… Losa Ristovski, the younger sister of Titan sophomore Haleigh and Michigan junior Madison, signed an NLI to play for Detroit next season… Ristovski's five steals was the most by a Titan since Frederick-Childress had five at UIC last year… Her nine rebounds was also one away from her career high of 10 at Wright State last season… It was the 13th career game in double figures scoring for Reynolds, whose career high in points is 20 at Wright State… Reynolds played just three games last year before a knee injury ended her season, while Crosby played in only 12 before a foot injury ended her campaign...UDM is now 32-44 all-time against current members of the Big Ten… Detroit is now 15-23 in season openers.
