DETROIT (11/16/14) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will travel to the great northwest to face Oregon as part of the ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon and the Progressive Legends Classic. The game is set for Monday, Nov. 17, at 11 p.m. ET, at Matthew Knight Arena and will be televised live on ESPNU. The game can also be heard on 1270 AM with
Dan Leach the voice of the Titans.

Anton Wilson scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team opened its 110th season with a 77-54 victory of Rochester College Friday night at Calihan Hall.
The win also marked the 100th for head coach
Ray McCallum at Detroit. He is now just the fourth coach in program history to record 100 or more wins joining Bob Calihan (306), Perry Watson (261) and Lloyd Brazil (185).
Wilson made his first seven shots, including four from downtown, en route to scoring a team-high 20 points, while senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. pitched in 16 points and freshman
Paris Bass added 13. Junior guard
Carlton Brundidge pitched in eight points to go with four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while freshman forward
Jaleel Hogan added eight points to go along with three boards.
Detroit shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) overall, including 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from downtown, while holding Rochester to 39.6 percent (21-of-53) overall. The Titans forced 20 Warrior turnovers, while recording nine steals and five blocked shots.
TITANS RECEIVE VOTES IN MID-MAJOR POLLDetroit finished with a perfect 2-0 record in the preseason and capped that off by receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll released this week. Detroit is one of five Horizon League teams represented as Green Bay was ranked ninth and Cleveland State 11th. Wright State, Valparaiso and Detroit received votes.
ABOUT OREGONSenior guard Joseph Young led a 33-1 run to close the first half, putting the Oregon men's basketball team on track for a season-opening 107-65 victory over Coppin State before 5,476 at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday.
The Eagles came out hot, making their first four shots, including three three-pointers for an 11-2 lead that forced an Oregon timeout. Two Young three-pointers from the left wing got the Ducks going, but another trio of Coppin State three-pointers made it 19-14, and the Eagles' seventh three-pointer of the game put them up 22-16. Young then helped Oregon wrest control of momentum, scoring or assisting on six of the next seven baskets during a 13-4 run that put the Ducks in front 29-26.
Junior Elgin Cook added 15 points, Dillon Brooks had 14 in his collegiate debut, fellow freshman Casey Benson scored 13 and a third freshman, Ahmaad Rorie, added 10. Oregon's fourth freshman, forward Jordan Bell scored eight and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST OREGONDetroit and Oregon have meet three times, with the Titans holding a 3-0 lead in the all-time series. Detroit won the last meeting 71-59 in 1979 at historic Calihan Hall. The Titans also won their only visit to Eugene with a 75-74 victory in 1978. The first meeting between Detroit and Oregon came in 1954, with the Titans winning at home 86-74.

Brandan Kearney was a member of the 2010 USA Youth Olympic Games Team that finished in fourth place with a 5-2 record in Singapore. He also played on the 2009 USA U16 National Team that captured the gold medal with a perfect 5-0 slate at the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Mendoza, Argentina.
Coach McCallum was an assistant coach for the 2000 USA World Championship For Young Men Qualifying Team and helped coach the USA to a silver medal and a 4-1 slate. His son and former Titan
Ray McCallum played on the 2011 USA World University Games Team that finished with a 7-1 record, but dropped its quarterfinal contest and returned home in fifth place.
TITANS PICKED THIRDDetroit was picked to finish third in the Horizon League preseason poll
– voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors and media members – while senior forward
Juwan Howard Jr. was named to the preseason first team at the Horizon League Men's Basketball Media Day at the Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel in Rosemont.

Green Bay was selected as the favorite to win the league with 32 first place votes and 357 points overall, while Cleveland State was picked to finish second with 335 points, including nine first place votes. Detroit was slated to place third with 239 points, while Valparaiso was picked fourth with 228 points.
Wright State is projected to finish fifth totaling 186 points, ahead of sixth-place and defending Horizon League Tournament Champion Milwaukee's 182 points. Metro Series rival Oakland was picked seventh (178), followed by Youngstown State (95) and UIC (45).
The last time Detroit was picked among the top-three of the Horizon League preseason poll was the 2012-13 season when the Titans finished second in Horizon League play with a 12-4 mark and 20-13 overall, earning a trip to the NIT.

Chris Jenkins will be eligible for competition after sitting out last year. Newcomers
Aaron Foster-Smith,
Jaleel Hogan and

Brandan Kearney, who transferred from Arizona State, will also look to make an impact.
MOVING FORWARDDetroit returns a core of student-athletes who saw playing time in 30 or more games last season including Howard, who was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team last year after averaging 18.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Also returning up front with Howard will be senior forward
Patrick Onwenu who played in all 32 games for the Titans last year where he averaged 4.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. During the Titans 2014 Summer Trip to Vancouver, Onwenu emerged to lead the team with 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Sophomore guard
Jarod Williams also earned All-League honors by being named to the Rookie Team after starting 28 games in which he averaged 7.7 points and 2.0 assists per game. Returning to the back court with Williams will be his classmate
Matthew Grant, who played in all 32 games last year – starting 12 – as a true freshman, while averaging 7.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
A pair of junior guards will also be competing for playing time the backcourt as
Carlton Brundidge and
Anton Wilson both averaged more than seven points per game last year. Brundidge played in 32 games – starting 20 – as a sophomore where he averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, while his classmate Wilson also played in all 32 games last season averaging 7.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Between Howard, Williams, Grant, Brundidge, Wilson and Onwenu the Titans return 75 percent of their scoring from last season along with 52 percent of their work on the boards.
MEDIA PACKAGE ANNOUNCEDThe University of Detroit Mercy Department of Athletics has announced the 2014-15 men's and women's basketball local television schedule. The 15-game package includes games on WADL 38 and Comcast 900.
The seven men's games on WADL will be against Bowling Green (Nov. 30), South Florida (Dec. 6), Oral Roberts (Dec. 30), Oakland (Jan. 10), Green Bay (Jan. 17), Wright State (Jan. 26) and Valparaiso (Feb. 25).
In addition to the games with WADL, Comcast 900 will air five men's games, including the season opener against Rochester College on Nov. 14. The other four men's contests to air locally on Comcast will be against South Alabama (Nov. 22), Aquinas College (Dec. 1), Youngstown State (Jan. 29) and UIC (Feb. 8)
The Titans will also begin their second season on CBS Radio Detroit with at least 20 games on 97.1 FM The Ticket and 1270 AM.
UP NEXTDetroit will stay on the road for the regional round of the Progressive Legends Classic when it visits Ann Arbor to face Michigan.
