DETROIT (3/25/2026) -- The Titans and the Detroit Mercy Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) had a fun day on campus as they hosted over 80 kids from the Michigan Special Olympics and Detroit Public Schools.
"Today was a truly meaningful day as we celebrated the Special Olympics alongside students from Detroit Public Schools," said Director of Student-Athlete Services
Betsey Walkowiak. "The atmosphere was filled with energy, encouragement, and genuine joy as athletes showcased their determination, teamwork, and spirit. It was inspiring to see everyone come together to support inclusion and celebrate ability."
The Titans came together to help teach the kids basketball, soccer, tennis, and pickleball. All the kids talked and played with UDM student-athletes, then had a pizza party afterward.
Today was just about having a lot of fun," said SAAC Co-President
Ayva Schmalz. "It was a perfect day for this, all these kids are out here having fun and learning about different sports. They had so much fun just being on a college campus and playing with the big kids, and I know all the student-athletes had a blast, just seeing all these kids laugh and smile."
