Both teams came out shooting in the first half opening 4-of-9 from the field and the game was tied at 11-11 seven minutes in. Detroit (1-4) actually scored the game's first five points and after back-to-back treys by Reynolds and Urbanick, the Titans led 11-3 at the 16:54 mark.
Niagara (2-3) used a 14-2 run to take a 17-13 lead with 9:42 left, but junior
Lariah Stevens ended that with a 3-pointer. The Purple Eagles continued to stay in front, but a bucket from Ristovski and a layup from Seward pulled the red, white and blue within one, 21-20, with 3:37 remaining in the first half.
Detroit would get back to a one-possession game as Urbanick connected on her second from downtown to make it 25-23, but the Titans would trail at the half, 30-25.
Niagara extended its lead to nine, 34-25, early in the second stanza, but another three by Reynolds had the Titans down by just six, 34-28, with 14:45 remaining. From there, the Purple Eagles pushed their lead to double digits and the red, white and blue could not get any closer.
Stevens ended the game with six points and three rebounds, while freshman
Brianne Cohen had four points off the bench. Senior
Ellisha Crosby totaled four points, five rebounds and a pair of steals and Seward added three caroms and two assists.
Detroit attempted a season-high 29 trifectas and tied its season best with eight treys. UDM also tied its season low with nine turnovers.
The Titans will be back in action on Tuesday as the red, white and blue visit the Hoosier State to face IPFW on Dec. 2. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. (EST).
Game Notes:This was the first career meeting between the two schools… Mary Roickle was the second head coach in Titan history posting a 46-20 record in her three years (1980-83) on the sidelines from 1980-83 and she arrived in the Motor City after serving as head coach of her alma mater Niagara for four years (1976-80)… The school record for 3-pointers attempted was 33 against Ball State last season… Ristovski has now totaled five assists five times in her career…
