College Sports Madness Players of the Week
DETROIT (11/4/2014) -- Sophomore midfielder
Adam Clauss (Grand Haven, Mich. / Spring Lake) helped push the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team into first place last weekend and was rewarded Tuesday by being named the College Sports Madness Horizon League Player of the Week.
Clauss scored the game-winning goal in Detroit's 1-0 victory at Belmont on Saturday. His penalty kick goal in the 38th minute proved to be the game-winner. With the win, the Titans surpassed Oakland into first place in the Horizon League standings.
The goal was Clauss' second game-winning goal of the season. Clauss also scored a game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the season opener at Western Michigan in overtime. Clauss has taken all three of Detroit's penalty kicks this season and has converted on each one.
On the season, Clauss is tied for first on the squad with four goals, while ranking in a tie for third with nine points. He is second on Detroit with 27 shots.
It's the first time this season that a Detroit player has been honored by College Sports Madness.
Detroit (9-5-3, 6-1 Horizon League) plays at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Indianapolis against IUPUI, before wrapping up the season Friday at Milwaukee.
