Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (11/4/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team had another strong defensive effort Tuesday night, posting its sixth shutout in the past seven games in a 0-0 draw on the road against IUPUI. It was the last non-conference match of the season for Detroit.
Detroit (9-5-4) earned its eighth shutout of the year overall, matching the second-highest total in a single season by a UDM men's soccer team and just one away from the school record of nine posted in 1993. The Titans join the 2007 team that also recorded eight shutouts as UDM has allowed just one goal in the past seven matches.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Robbie Beckwell (Shelby Township, Mich. / Henry Ford II) made eight saves in net to earn his first career shutout. Beckwell was making his second career start in goal for the Titans.
The Titans earned several chances throughout the game with the ability to get corner kicks. Detroit worked its way into a season-high 14 corner kicks, including seven in the first 45 minutes of the match. The red, white and blue also had 10 shots in the first half.
Sophomore midfielder
Adam Clauss (Grand Haven, Mich. / Spring Lake) had a game-high six shots for the Titans and had a couple of looks late in regulation. Detroit had three corner kicks in the final six minutes of regulation and Clauss pushed a pair of headers wide in the closing minutes as the match went to overtime.
IUPUI (5-7-3) had four shots in the second overtime frame, but Beckwell and the Detroit defense were up to the task. Beckwell made one save in each overtime session to help clinch the shutout.
Detroit held the shot advantage during the contest, 22-17, while IUPUI was credited with the edge in shots on goal, 9-5.

Zach Atwood (Jacksonville, Fla. / Livonia Stevenson) and freshman forward
Don Nakashima (Novi, Mich. / Novi) all had three shots apiece for Detroit, while Atwood had three shots on goal to lead all Detroit players.
The Titans next play Friday in a pivotal Horizon League match-up at Milwaukee. First-place Detroit can win the Horizon League regular-season title with a victory over the Panthers. Gametime is set for 8 p.m. (EST).
