CINCINNATI (12/23/2014) --
Freshman Darianne Seward led the Titans with 11 points and five rebounds, but Cincinnati took the lead early and never looked back as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team fell, 70-38, on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.

Freshman Nicole Urbanick had six points and four rebounds, while redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds had four points and a team-high four assists. Senior Brie Wilcox and freshmen Brianne Cohen and Chea Taylor also had four points apiece.

The Titans (5-7) had some good looks at the basket in the first half, but were unable to find consistent offense. Taylor scored the game's first basket off a great pass from Reynolds, but Cincinnati (3-8) responded with seven-straight points. A layup from Seward ended that run and pulled UDM within three, 7-4, and later on, a bucket from Cohen made it 9-6 a little more than five minutes into the game.

The Bearcats would then increase their advantage to nine at 17-8 and 19-10, but a trey from junior Lariah Stevens trimmed the deficit to six, 19-13, with nine minutes left in the period. The Titans would get within five points twice off a Seward three and then a jumper from Reynolds for a 25-20 score, but went into the half trailing by nine, 29-20.

The second half saw the Titans begin the same as the first as Taylor got inside for a basket, but the Bearcats put the game away with a 12-0 spurt to take a 41-22 lead with 15:24 remaining. Cincinnati would push its advantage to the 20's and then 30's as Detroit tried to chip away.

Taylor also added four rebounds and two steals. Urbanick had four boards and Stevens ended with three points and three caroms.

The Titans will now take a few days off for Christmas break and will get back on the hardwood next Tuesday, Dec. 30, as the red, white and blue head to Ypsilanti to battle the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Tip off is slated for 7:00 p.m., at the Convocation Center.

Game Notes:
Detroit now trails the all-time series 10-2 and is 0-7 all-time on the road against the Bearcats… Detroit graduate assistant coach Shareese McBrayer played two seasons for Cincinnati, averaging 11.4 ppg., as a junior and 13.7 ppg., as a senior, which ranked 14th in the BIGEAST… After using the same starting five for the first 10 games, Detroit has used two different ones in the last two as it has been without the services of senior Ellisha Crosby… Taylor, who hails from Bellbrook, Ohio, just 45 minutes away from Cincinnati, made her first career start…
