GREEN BAY, Wis. (3/8/2014) --
It was a game of runs early on, but the Phoenix had one to many as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team dropped a 72-52 contest at Green Bay in the Kress Events Center on Saturday.

Detroit ended the regular season at 6-23, 3-13 in the Horizon League, but with Valparaiso falling at Wright State, UDM will get the No. 8 seed and host the Crusaders in the opening round game of the Horizon League Championship on Monday, March. 10. Game time will be 7:00 p.m.

Senior Senee Shearer led Detroit with 19 points and three rebounds, while freshman Haleigh Ristovski had 11. Senior Megan Hatter posted five points and a team-high 10 rebounds and freshman Megan Galloway finished with five points and eight boards.

The Titans cut Green Bay's 21-point second half lead to just 11 with 8:35 left in the game. Galloway started the spurt with a layup and then Shearer drained one from long distance. After a Green Bay basket, Shearer hit another three to make it 51-36 with 9:52 left.

Ristovski then connected from long range and another free throw from Galloway had Detroit within 11, 51-40, with 8:35 remaining. The Phoenix was just too strong though and another 9-0 run ensued to make the deficit, 60-40, at the 5:28 mark.

Green Bay started the game on a 9-0 run, but the Titans came right back with 10 straight, thanks to eight points and a couple of trifectas from Shearer. The Phoenix then went on another 9-0 spurt to take an 18-10 lead with 11:26 left in the first half.

Green Bay extended it to a 15-2 run to jump out in front, 24-12, with 6:42 left in the opening period.  The Titans were in a drought offensively going eight minutes without a field goal until Ristovski had a layup with 37 seconds on the clock as the Phoenix took a 31-17 lead at the break.

Sophomore Tayelor McCalister scored seven points and had three rebounds and two assists and freshman Minisha Frederick-Childress added four points.
