Box Score DAYTON, Ohio (9/27/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match Saturday at Wright State University. The match was the Titans' first road Horizon League match of the season.
Wright State scored two goals in the first half which proved to be the difference in the game. Detroit did have chances in the second half, including senior
Alyssa Riley's (Whitby, Ont. / Father Leo J. Austin) shot that hit the post. Junior forward
Sara Zawacki (Dearborn, Mich. / Marian) followed with a shot that went wide of the goal just a few seconds later.
Wright State (4-6-1, 1-0-1 HL) scored two goals in a span of 2:18 just before halftime. WSU's Stevee Hazel scored in the 38th minute and Kalee Thompson followed two over two minutes later with her first of the season to give the Raiders a 2-0 halftime lead.
Zawacki had a team-high three shots off the bench for the Titans. Junior midfielder
Jennifer Borawski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) added two shots on goals for Detroit. Detroit freshman goalkeeper
Marina Manzo (Washington Twp., Mich. / Romeo) made five saves in net for the Titans.
Wright State held the shot advantage in the contest, 18-8, and also had the edge in corner kicks, 6-2.
Detroit falls to 1-1 in the Horizon League with the loss and the Titans are 3-5-1 overall.
The Titans return to the pitch Saturday, Oct. 4 for a road Horizon League match at UIC. The Detroit women's team is set to play at 5:30 p.m. local time with the UDM men's team following against UIC at 8 p.m.
