Detroit Drops 1-0 Match in Final Minute at Denver

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. (9/5/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team allowed just one goal Friday in the first of two games in Colorado this weekend, but unfortunately that goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 loss at Denver University.

The Titans (1-2-1) held Denver, which was playing in its home opener, scoreless for nearly the entire 90 minutes of regulation. Denver's Jocelyn Loomis scored from roughly 18 yards out with just 54 seconds remaining on the clock in regulation to give the Pioneers (2-2-1) the victory.

Denver got off to a good start, getting off seven shots in the first half compared to two by Detroit. The Titans had a couple of headers in the final minutes of the first half by senior midfielder Alyssa Riley (Whitby, Ont. / Father Leo J. Austin), but both chances were thwarted. UDM finished the match with one shot on goal.

Detroit also had all three of its corner kicks in the first half. Denver had just one corner kick chance for the entire match. The Pioneers held the edge in total shots for the contest, 10-4.

Freshman goalkeeper Marina Manzo (Washington Township, Mich. / Romeo) made two saves in net for the Titans. Detroit has allowed just one goal total in the past three games overall.

The Titans kicked off a four-game road trip in Friday's game. Detroit plays one more match in Colorado, playing the University of Colorado at 3 p.m. Sunday.
