Juwan Howard Jr. scored 19 points – 13 in the second half – but it wasn't enough as Green Bay used a second half run to sneak away with a 70-64 win over the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team on Saturday during Homecoming at Calihan Hall.
 
Detroit (9-10, 3-2 HL) led 30-27 at the half and 37-32 with 16 minutes remaining, before Green Bay (15-4, 4-1 HL) used a 12-1 run to take a lead it would not relinquish.

The Titans would battle back to tie the game 57-57 with 4:21 left and had a chance to regain the lead, but Howard was called for a lane violation while making a free throw. The Phoenix then made a 3-pointer on its ensuing possession to take the lead for good.
 
The Titans were called for three lane violations on the day, two during made free throws.

Howard finished with 19 points, five assists and two rebounds, while junior Anton Wilson added 12 points and five rebounds. Freshman Jaleel Hogan pitched in nine points, while Horizon League Freshman of the Week Paris Bass added seven to go along with five rebounds, three assists, one blocked shot and a steal.
 
Detroit opened the  game with a 10-2 run, with all five starters scoring, before Green Bay answered back with a 6-2 run to trim the lead to 12-8 with 12 minutes left. The Titans would then put together a 14-8 run to build the largest lead of the game 26-16 with 5:48 remaining, before the Phoenix closed the half with an 11-4 run to make the score 30-27 heading into the locker room. Wilson led Detroit with nine points in the first half, while Howard had six.

Detroit shot 44 percent (25-of-57) overall and 43 percent (6-of-14) from downtown, while Green Bay finished shooting 48 percent (24-of-50) overall, including 35 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc. The Phoenix made 17-of-23 from the charity stripe, while Detroit only connected on 8-of-13. Green Bay won the battle on the boards 32-31.

Keifer Sykes led Green Bay with a game-high 28 points – 18 in the second half – while Greg Mays added a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Detroit will step out of Horizon League play as the Titans visit Boston on Monday, Jan. 19, to face Northeastern for an afternoon game on Martin Luther King Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET at Matthews Arena and can be heard on AM 1270 with the voice of the Titans Dan Leach.
