COLUMBUS, Ohio (1/30/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team scored three of its four second-half goals in the span of 3:13, but the Titans fell in their 2015 season opener at No. 10-ranked Ohio State, 19-4.
Senior
Tessa Keuler scored Detroit's first goal of the game at the 16:21 mark of the second half. Junior
Michaela Schwartz added another goal just over a minute later sneaking in close to net and beating the OSU goalkeeper. Sophomore
Kelsi Pritchard added a free position goal nearly two minutes later at the 13:08 mark of the second half.
Detroit (0-1) would score its fourth goal of the game as sophomore
Julie Castner scored on a pass from freshman
Jordyn Beam. The assist for Beam was her first career helper in her first collegiate game.
Senior goalkeeper
Lexie McCormick made several point-blank saves during the contest and finished the contest with 12 saves. Senior
Annie Mendoza led the Titans with four shots and four draw controls.
Senior defender
Amanda Guthrie led the squad with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while freshman
Emma Mucci tallied two ground balls and two draw controls in her first collegiate game.
Detroit finished the game with 11 ground balls, while Ohio State tallied 18. Both teams collected 13 draw controls. The Buckeyes (1-0), playing in their first game as part of the Big Ten in women's lacrosse, had the advantage in shots, 37-12.
UDM played evenly with OSU down the stretch as each team scored four goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
The Titans return competitively on Sunday, Feb. 8 for an 11 a.m. exhibition match against Western Ontarion. The contest is set to be played at Detroit Country Day High School.
