DETROIT (10/26/2015) -- Coming off a big road victory over Wright State on Saturday, the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer squad travels to IPFW for a 6 p.m. Tuesday night non-conference match in Fort Wayne.
The Titans earned a 3-2 double-overtime win against regionally-ranked Wright State in Dayton on
Jacob Prud'homme's golden goal. Detroit trailed 2-1 late in the game before
Spiro Pliakos fired a shot on net and into the goal in the 89th minute. Detroit countered off a set piece in double overtime to earn the victory. The win was Detroit's first in Horizon League play this season. The Titans started the season with five straight draws in conference play.
Detroit is 1-1-5 in the Horizon League with two conference matches remaining. The Titans are in a three-way tie for sixth place and are just two points out of fourth place. UDM faces Milwaukee and Belmont at home for its final two conference matches. The top six teams earn a spot in the Horizon League Championships after the finish of the regular season.

Titan Tidbits• Detroit is 4-1-6 in its last 11 matches. The Titans had a nine-match unbeaten streak during the season, which was the longest as a program since 1993.
• The Titans are one draw away from the NCAA single-season record of nine, which is shared by five other teams. It was most recently done by UC-Davis in 2014.
• Detroit has played in 10 overtimes matches so far this season (1-1-8), including all six of its matches at Titan Field. Detroit has already set a school record for draws in a season. The Titans played the entire conference schedule in 2014 without finishing with a draw (6-2 last season in the Horizon League).

Jacob Prud'homme's golden goal at Detroit was his second career goal. He also scored in a home win against Cleveland State last season.

Spiro Pliakos tallied his second three-point match of the season against Wright State. The sophomore assisted on
Don Nakashima's goal in the sixth minute before scoring the game-tying goal in the 89th minute to push the match into overtime. Pliakos is tied for second in the HL with five assists on the season.

Nathan Steinwascher tops the Horizon League in saves (70), while ranking second in saves per game (5.00) and save percentage (81.4). Steinwascher became the third Detroit goalkeeper to reach 300 career saves in Detroit's draw at Green Bay. He is also just two shutouts behind Kal Kaliszewski for the school record in career shutouts (19).
• Detroit's 28 shots against Northern Kentucky is the highest total by a team in a Horizon League match this year. UDM is second in the conference with 91 corner kicks, trailing only Wright State (98).
• The Titans have had two Horizon League Player of the Weeks this season.
Nathan Steinwascher was named the HL Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21, while
Spiro Pliakos was selected as the HL Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14.
Stat of the Week10Â - Detroit has played in 10 overtime matches this season, the most in the Horizon League. Detroit won its first overtime game of the season Saturday in its double-overtime victory at Wright State. The Titans have a 1-1-8 record in overtime matches this season.
Scouting IPFWThe Mastodons are 5-8 on the season and have yet to play in an overtime game this season. IPFW is 2-6 in its last eight games, although the Mastodons are coming off a 2-1 against Summit League rival Western Illinois. IPFW is 3-3 in games played at home in 2015.
Six different players have multiple goals for IPFW this season, including Austin West, who leads the squad with four goals. Zach Tom leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. West leads the Mastodons with 32 shots. Goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock has started all 13 games and has a 65.2 save percentage.
All-Time SeriesDetroit is 9-2-3 all-time against IPFW with both losses coming on the road. The Titans are 4-2-1 in games played in Fort Wayne. The two squads have met in every season since 2001. In last season's contest, IPFW and Detroit played to a 1-1 draw in Detroit. UDM fired off 29 shots in last year's meeting and sophomore goalkeeper
Robbie Beckwell made his first start in net for the Titans, making five saves.
Matt Harkema scored the lone goal in the game for Detroit.

Steinwascher Chosen as Candidate for Senior Class AwardSenior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher has been chosen as one of 30 candidates for the 2015 Senior Class Award in Divison I men's soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release. Steinwascher is the only Horizon League soccer student-athlete -- men's or women's -- to be among the 2015 candidates for the award.
The Sterling Heights, Mich. native has already completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting with a 3.63 GPA. He's currently enrolled in an MBA program and holds a 3.46 GPA. The candidate classes for the Senior Class Award will be narrowed down to 10 finalists midway through the regular season and those 10 names will be placed on an official ballot. Ballots will then be distributed nationwide to media, coaches and fans who will select one male and one female candidate that best exemplifies the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
Titans Selected to Finish Fifth in Horizon LeagueThe University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team was selected to finish fifth in the Horizon League as the 2015 preseason poll. The poll was voted on by the league's head coaches. Detroit, which earned a share of the Horizon League regular-season title in 2014, received 47 points in the poll.
The reigning league champions, Oakland, was picked to finish first after earning five of 10 first-place votes. Four different teams collected first-place votes in the poll. Valparaiso (64 points) and Wright State (63 points) were behind the Golden Grizzlies in second and third, respectively, each garnering two first-place tallies. Milwaukee received the final first place vote and was selected ahead of Detroit with 52 points.

Nicholas Deren '99Â returns for his sixth full season in 2015. He has earned two regular season titles in the past three seasons with the Titans, helping lead Detroit to the outright title in 2012 before leading the team to a share in 2014. He has 43 victories in his head coaching tenure at Detroit, including 19 in Horizon League play.
Record BooksSenior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher entered his senior season in the top-three in several statistical categories. Steinwascher is third all-time in total saves at 326 and is 33 behind Titan Hall of Famer Kal Kaliszewski for second in saves. Steinwascher's 17 career shutouts is one behind Sasha Boskovic for second and two back of Kaliszewski for the most in Titan history.
Steinwascher also entered 2015 second in career goals against average (1.29) and third in save percentage (77.6) and is among the NCAA active career leader in several statistical categories. He is No. 2 on the active career saves list behind IUPUI's Eduardo Cortes and sixth in saves per game (4.56).
