Titans Post Second-Straight Win in 1-0 Shutout at IPFW

The Basics
Score: Detroit 1, IPFW 0
Records: Detroit 5-3-8, IPFW 5-9-0
Location: Fort Wayne, Ind. (Hefner Soccer Complex)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (10/27/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team earned its second road victory in four days Tuesday evening, posting a 1-0 shutout victory at IPFW at Hefner Soccer Complex. It was Detroit's fourth shutout of the season and fourth non-conference win in the 2015 campaign.

Detroit (5-3-8 overall) scored the lone goal of the game in the 30th minute after senior defender Jacob Prud'homme was hauled down in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Detroit's first PK of the season was handled by junior midfielder Adam Clauss, who found the back of the net for his second goal of the year.

The Titan defense did the rest keeping a potent IPFW offense off the board. The Mastodons entered the game with 22 goals on the year, but Detroit allowed just 14 shots in the contest and sophomore keeper Robbie Beckwell stopped all eight shots on goal. Beckwell, making his second start of the season, tied a career-high with his eight saves. He also made eight saves last season against IUPUI. The shutout was Beckwell's first of the season and second career shutout.

The Detroit offense tallied four shots in the second half, three of them on goal. Tommy Bowman and Clauss had back-to-back looks in the 78th and 80th minutes, respectively, but both shots on net were saved.

IPFW applied good offensive pressure in the second half, firing seven shots and collecting seven corner kicks, however, the Mastodons couldn't get through the Detroit defense. IPFW had two corner kicks and two shots in the final four minutes of the match, but the Mastodons weren't able to get a look on net.

With the victory, Detroit earned its fifth win of the season away from Titan Field.
