ANN ARBOR, Mich. (2/14/2015) -- Senior
Shayne Adams and freshman
Mark Anstead each had three points apiece, but that was not enough as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 game on Saturday night at Oosterbann Field House.
Adams posted two goals and an assist, while Anstead recorded two helpers and a goal.
Sophomore
Jason Weber made 17 saves and junior defenseman
Paul Bitetti registered two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Michigan (2-0) got off to a quick start with four goals in the first five minutes before Anstead found Adams for a strike with 3:49 left in the period. UDM was down 5-1 early in the second when that same combination connected for another Adams' score.
Detroit (1-1) then trailed 7-2 when Anstead beat the goalie on an unassisted goal.
Michigan answered with a marker, but Detroit got even closer as Adams fed senior
Thomas Sible and the captain found the back of the net at the 3:05 mark. Just a minute later, freshman
Sean Birney was able to get a pass to sophomore
Brad Harris and he lit the lamp to make it 8-5 at the break.
The Titans couldn't get any closer as the Wolverines opened the third period with another 4-0 run before senior
Scott Drummond scored on the man-up early in the fourth to pull the red, white and blue within, 12-6.
Michigan outshot the Titans, 52-28, and controlled the ground balls, 34-18.
Weber also had five ground balls. Junior
Damien Hicks was 9-of-21 in faceoffs with four ground balls and senior
Chris Shevins corralled two GB's.
The Titans will now get ready for a home date with Robert Morris as Detroit hosts the Colonials next Saturday, Feb. 21, at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. For ticket information or to purchase tickets, click here.
