Biography

2015: Started all 14 games on the year… A team captain, he led the Titans with a career-best 16 caused turnovers and tied for fifth with 25 ground balls… Also whistled for four penalties totaling three minutes… Started the season tallying a career-best three caused turnovers with a pair of ground balls in the win over Ohio State… Had two caused turnovers and two ground balls against Robert Morris… Posted a caused turnover and three ground balls against nationally-ranked Marquette in the Midwest Classic… Collected a season-best four ground balls against Mercer… Had three GB’s at Air Force… Finished with two caused turnovers and a ground ball against Manhattan… Registered a caused turnover with three ground balls versus Monmouth… Posted two caused turnovers and two GB’s at Siena… Had two caused turnovers with a ground ball in the MAAC Championship semifinals versus Quinnipiac… Finished his career playing in 55 games and ranking sixth with 29 caused turnovers and also corralling 64 ground balls… A four-year member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and earned the Academic Excellence Award at the Annual Academic & Athletic Awards Dinner, given to student-athletes who have recorded at least a 3.0 GPA for every semester that they have participated in college athletics… A member of the MAAC Academic Honor Roll... Also a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.

2014: One of the team’s captains, he played in all 14 games with 13 starts… Finished fourth on the team with 26 ground balls and tied for fourth with eight caused turnovers… Third on the squad with seven penalties for a total of six minutes… Had three ground balls against Michigan… Posted two caused turnovers and a ground ball versus Bellarmine and then added a pair of caused turnovers and two GB’s against Quinnipiac… Tallied a caused turnover with three loose balls in the home win over Marist… Came away with two caused turnovers and three GB’s at Manhattan… Picked up a career-high five ground balls in the road win over Monmouth… A member of the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and the MAAC All-Academic Team.  

2013: Played in all 15 games with three starts, helping the Titans finish in the top three in caused turnovers in the nation as well as with a school record 9.90 goals against average… Collected 12 ground balls and had five caused turnovers… Tallied a career-high two ground balls against Quinnipiac, at Marist, Manhattan and at #2 Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Championship… Also posted a career-high two caused turnovers against the Jaspers and the Fighting Irish… Presented with the Larry Bleach Award at the Annual Titan Academic and Athletic Honors Dinner, given to a student-athletes for showing dedication in the areas of strength training, fitness and conditioning... Earned a spot on the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the MAAC All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.

2012: Saw action in 12 games as a rookie…Picked up a ground ball in the MAAC Championship semifinals against Canisius…A member of the Titan Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the MAAC's Academic Honor Roll.

Prior To Detroit: Earned letters in lacrosse (4), football (3) and basketball at Mepham…A fierce defenseman, Shevins was a four-year starter and two-time captain for the Pirates…He has earned back-to-back All-Conference and Academic All-Conference accolades as well as the Coaches Award as a junior…Also tabbed honorable mention All-County…Tallied 135 ground balls, forced 33 turnovers, three assists and two goals as a junior and came back with 132 GB’s, 43 forced turnovers, three goals and two assists as a senior…In football, he was named All-County and academic All-State…He was also selected by the National Football Foundation as one of Nassau County’s “Golden Eleven,” a scholarship award given to the 11 players who best embody the behavior expected of student-athletes on and off the field as well as receiving the Roy Kessenich Memorial Scholarship Award, an honor that requires academic and athletic success…Off the field, he was an active member in the National, Art, Social Studies, English and Spanish honor societies, as well as Athletes Helping Athletes and the S.A.L.T. Leadership Program.

Personal: Son of Diane and Scott Shevins…Has two younger brothers…An active member in community service, he has volunteered for the Rockville Centre Youth Lacrosse Clinic, the P.A.L. Youth Lacrosse Program and the Lupus Walk at Eisenhower Park…Chose Detroit because he felt it was a program on the rise and the program’s philosophy of outworking its opponents…Majoring in Cyber Security and Intelligence Analysis.
