DETROIT (3/12/2015) - The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team celebrated its 2014-15 achievements at the annual Awards Banquet at the Presidents Ballroom on the campus of UDM Thursday evening.

Titans' captain
Juwan Howard Jr. took home the Robert Calihan Most Valuable Player Award after a standout senior campaign. Howard was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team after finishing his final campaign averaging 17.5 ppg, which ranked second in the Horizon League. He also finished third in free throw percentage (85.0%) and fourth with 2.0 three-point field goals made per game, all while leading the Titans with 2.4 assists per game.
The Dave DeBusschere Most Improved Award went to junior guard
Anton Wilson who played in all 33 games - starting 16 - for Detroit and finished third on the team in scoring with 8.5 points per game. The sharp shooter also connected on 42 percent (55-of-134) of his shots from downtown, while leading the team from the charity stripe where he shot 85.7 percent.

Youssoupha Kane was tabbed the William Ebben Academic and Athletic Excellence Award winner, while classmate
Carlton Brundidge earned the Frank R. Gerbig, Sr. Sportsmanship Award honors.

The Larry Doyle Most Dedicated Titan Award went to senior
Brandan Kearney who played in all 33 games – starting 13 – in his only season with his hometown team. Kearney recorded six double-digit scoring games and finished fifth on the team with 6.3 points per game.
The 2015 Horizon League Freshman of the Year
Paris Bass collected the Norm Swanson Top Newcomer Award. Bass closed the regular season leading all freshmen in the League in scoring at 12.5 points per game, rebounding at 5.8 per contest and blocked shots at 1.0 per game. He tied for the most steals by a rookie, while his 46.2 percent field goal shooting was second-best of any freshman in the conference.

Bass was also named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on four occasions and recorded four double-doubles in the regular season. He became just the fifth Titan to score 400 or more points during his rookie campaign as he finished his first season with 410.
Freshman
Jaleel Hogan also took home the Most Courageous Award after playing in all 33 games for the Titans as a true freshman and averaging 5.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. In Horizon League play the freshman stepped up his game where he averaged 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, including 10 points and nine rebounds in the win over regular season champion Valparaiso.
