Titans Match School-Record With 22 Goals in Win at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. (3/16/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team tied a single-game school record Monday by scoring 22 goals as the Titans rolled to a 22-6 victory at Delaware State. It's the second Detroit (3-4) road victory in the past three games.

It's also just the second time in three games that the Titans have allowed just six goals as they defeated Saint Mary's, 16-6, on March 4.

Eleven Titans found the back of the net and eight players had multiple-point games. Detroit scored early and often and built a double-digit lead by halftime, leading at the break 14-3.

Senior Tessa Keuler had three goals and three assists in the opening 30 minutes, finishing the game with the same totals. Freshman Jessica Snyder tallied her second career hat trick and had a career-high six points after also dishing out three assists. The six points for Snyder is the most by a Detroit freshman since 2012, when Keuler had seven points in a game.

Junior Kylie Birney was the third member of the squad to post a hat trick as she scored three goals, while senior Annie Mendoza and freshman Emma Mucci each had two goals and one assist. Sophomores Kelsi Pritchard and Lauren Sharkey each had two goals and freshman Jordyn Beam recorded a goal and an assist.

Juniors Julie Caster, Jenna Payne and Michaela Schwartz all added one goal for the Titans. Senior defender Amanda Guthrie had team-highs with four ground balls and two caused turnovers during the contest, while Mendoza and Birney each tallied four draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Lexie McCormick started and played the entire first half, making three stops in net. Freshman goalkeeper Julia Darroch played the entire second half and made one stop between the pipes for the Titans.

Detroit finished the game with 39 shots compared to just 10 for Delaware State (0-8). The red, white and blue also had 19 ground balls and 18 draw controls and forced the Hornets into 19 turnovers.

UDM also scored 22 goals in the 2013 regular-season finale against Kennesaw State in Detroit. It's the third time in the past three seasons that Detroit has scored 20 or more goals in a game. The Titans have scored 16 or more goals in their three victories and are averaging 18.3 goals per game in victories this season.

The Titans close out their five-game road trip on Sunday, March 22, visiting Marquette University for a 2 p.m. ET game in Milwaukee, Wis.
