DETROIT (4/11/2015) --
Eight Titans scored multiple goals and the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team set a school-record for goals in a game, defeating Howard University 23-15 at Titan Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Detroit also clinched a spot in the Atlantic Sun Championships for the third straight season.

The Titans improved to 7-6 overall, which is a milestone marking the first time this late in the season that Detroit has been over .500. Detroit stayed in a second place tie in the Atlantic Sun by reaching four wins, which is also the most conference victories for the program in a single season. UDM also improved to 4-0 at home this season.

Freshman Jordyn Beam tallied a career-best eight points to lead the Titans in the victory. She scored five goals and added three assists. Senior Tessa Keuler added three goals and three assists for six points, the fifth time this season that she's totaled six points in a contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Julia Darroch played the entire game in net, making 13 saves for the Titans. She made six saves in the first half to help stake Detroit to a 15-5 lead.

Freshman attack Brittany Fenney scored her first collegiate goal in the first half and added two more goals in notching her first career hat trick in the contest. Sophomore Danielle Kirby made her first start for the Titans, causing two turnovers and notching her first point of the season on an assist.

The 23 goals is the most by one goal as the Titans had previously scored 22 goals in a game twice, once this season. The goal output also marked the sixth time this season that Detroit has tallied 15 goals or more in a contest.

Junior Michaela Schwartz was the fourth player to score a hat trick for the Titans, tallying three goals and one assist. Sophomore Jenna Payne had a team-best three caused turnovers and finished with three ground balls. Freshman defender Lauren Webley led the squad with five ground balls and tied for the team lead with three draw controls.

Detroit had 45 shots during the contest, a season high. The Titans had the edge in shots and ground balls (27-13) over Howard.

The Titans next compete Saturday against Old Dominion (4-1 A-Sun) in a pivotal game in the Atlantic Sun. The game is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.
