DETROIT (4/3/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's track and field teams opened the 10th annual Detroit vs. Oakland dual meet with several PR's as each team of throwers performed well against the rival Golden Grizzlies. The two teams competed in the throws at UDM with the rest of the meet scheduled to be finished Saturday at Oakland.
Senior
Colin Cashner broke the Titan Field Stadium record in the hammer throw with a toss of 62.28 meters (204' 4"). He surpassed he previous PR by more than two meters and was just shy of
Eric Lewis' school record of 62.38 meters. Cashner broke coach
Brian Richotte's facility record of 60.60 meters (198' 9").

Eric Lewis reached 59.19 meters (194' 2.25") with his second throw in the hammer to finish just behind Cashner.
Senior
Lauren Berlin set PR's in both the hammer throw and discus for the Titans. She won the hammer by throwing a PR of 46.69 meters (153' 2.25"), more than four meters better than her previous best in the event. Sophomore
Ashley Bayles and Berlin finished 1-2 in the discus. Bayles won the event with a throw of 38.17 meters (125' 2.75") and Berlin had a best throw of 36.89 meters (121' 0.25").
Bayles led the Detroit charge in the shot put, winning the event for the Titans. Her best throw on the day landed at 13.32 meters (43' 8.25").
Sophomore
Jacob Whitting earned a PR of 38.58 meters (126' 6.75") in the javelin for the Titans. Senior
Hana Hunt also earned a PR for the Titans in the javelin, throwing 30.41 meters (99' 8").
Detroit will wrap up the dual meet on Saturday in Rochester, Mich. The Detroit men's team has an 8-1 record in dual meets vs. Oakland, while the women heads into the meet with a 7-2 head-to-head record. Visit DetroitTitans.com for full results following the conclusion of the meet.
