DETROIT (6/22/2015) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will welcome MAC rival University of Toledo to historic Calihan Hall on Wednesday, December 9 for the Titans fourth home game of the 2015-16 season.
This will be the 55th meeting between Detroit and Toledo, with the Rockets leading the all-time series 29-25. Last year, the Titans snapped the Rockets 18-game home winning streak, which dated back to Jan. 18, 2012.
Detroit trailed by five 71-66 with 3:31 left in regulation, before closing out the game with a 16-8 run, including four-straight free throws down the stretch, to win the Progressive Legends Classic Sub-Regional Championship 82-79.
Paris Bass recorded his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists, one steal and one blocked shot and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Jarod Williams scored 13 points to go along with three steals and three assists, while
Anton Wilson added 10 points – eight in the second half – to go with two steals.
Over the 63 years since the opening of Calihan Hall, the men's basketball team has enjoyed a 594-240 (.712) homecourt record on campus, including a 10-6 record last season and a 70-36 ledger since head coach
Ray McCallum took over in 2008.
Toledo is coming off a pair of 20-win seasons and has posted a Mid-American Conference-best 47 victories over the last two seasons. The Rockets are returning two starters; junior center Nathan Boothe and sophomore guard Jonathan Williams. Boothe averaged 10.0 ppg and 5.7 rpg en route to earning honorable-mention All-MAC honors, while Williams tallied 10.2 ppg and 3.4 rpg.
Detroit is scheduled to host six non-conference games this season at Calihan Hall, followed by nine Horizon League games in the Motor City.
Over the next couple weeks, the Titans will announce a non-conference home game every day rotating back and forth between the men's and women's basketball teams. Then, in early July, the full non-conference slate for both programs will be released.
