ROCHESTER, Mich. (9/4/2015) -- Sophomore
Sydnie Fetherolf led five Titans in the top 20 as the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team began the 2015 campaign at the 15th Annual Golden Grizzly Open on Friday.
"It was hot and humid and we came out here as an extended work out after the hard training we have been putting in," said Director of track and field and cross country
Guy Murray '89. "We were a bit shorthanded on both teams, but we will continue to work hard as we move on."
The 4k event was held at Oakland Cross Country Course with UDM taking part in the race for the 15th consecutive season. The Titans were second on the day recording 65 points with a shorthanded roster.
Fetherolf – the 2014 Horizon League Freshman of the Year - finished just outside the top 10 earning 11th in 15:48.
Sophomore
Jenny Ponkowski just missed a career mark claiming 13th in 15:56, while junior
Samantha Zakalowski took 16th in 16:09.
Junior
Devon Sutton placed 18th with a run of 16:18 and sophomore
Taylor Smith was 20th in 16:25. Sophomore
Sydney Shaw rounded out the Titan squad clocking a 16:37 for 22nd.
The Titans will now get ready for the 29th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational which is set for next Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cass Benton Park in Northville. For more information and for the meet schedule,
