MILWAUKEE (10/1/2016) -- Junior defender
Tyler Hughes scored his second career goal in the first half Saturday evening and the Titans tallied a season-high 14 shots, but the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 match at Milwaukee from Engelmann Stadium.
Hughes scored on a cross from classmate
Spiro Pliakos to give the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. It was Hughes' first goal of the season. Detroit Mercy led until just before halftime when Milwaukee scored an equalizer with nine seconds left in the first half.
Milwaukee would add a goal in the second half off a free kick to earn the victory on its home turf.
Detroit Mercy had 14 shots during the contest, six of them being shots on goal. The Titans had the edge in corner kicks during the match, 4-2, three of them coming in the opening 45 minutes.
Pliakos was active all night and paced the Detroit Mercy offensive attack with six total shots, three of them on net. Senior
Tommy Bowman added three shots, one of them on goal, while junior
Adam Clauss had two shots for Detroit Mercy.
Junior keeper
Robbie Beckwell, who entered Saturday's game second in the Horizon League in saves, turned away three more shots during the game. Detroit Mercy made four saves overall in the game.
Pliakos' helper was his first of the year and 16th of his career. He moved into a tie-for-13th place all time with former Titan Neil Williams.
