Ben Kendell motored his way to his second win of the season as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team placed third at the Canisius Alumni Classic.
The Titans totaled 70 points to finish third among the Division I competition in the 8k race held at Delaware Park.
Kendell – who won his first race at the 30th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational back on Sept. 10 – held off his main competitor by one second to break the yellow tape in 24:27. He is the first Titan with multiple wins in a year since Chris McPhee in 2001.

Austin Wigent was eighth in a season-low 26:12. Junior
Greg Ingle placed 19th in a time of 26:48 and freshman
Santana Scott claimed 20th in a career-best 26:51.
The race was the final tune-up before the postseason events in the Horizon League Championship and the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
The red, white and blue will now get ready for the Horizon League Championship, set for Oct. 29 at the Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

- The scoring five was a different quintet for the fourth time this year.
- Ben Kendell now has two wins, a runner-up mark and a top-10 effort in his four races on the season.
- He is the first multi-race winner at Detroit Mercy since Chris McPhee won the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invite and the Michigan Intercollegiate in 2001.
- He also won the first race for a Titan outside of the state of Michigan since Colin Creagh won the event in 2014.
- Kendell's 24:27 time was his best ever in three events at Canisius.
- Austin Wigent was back in the scoring five for the second-straight race.
- In just his third race of the season, Greg Ingle lowered his 8k time by more than a minute in the 27:47 he was clocked at Louisville.
- Santana Scott lowered his 8k time by 17 seconds in taking 20th in 26:51.
- Adam Fraeyman just missed a PR by three seconds with his 27:03 mark as he placed 22nd.
- Andrew Heitzhaus hit season-best with a time of 29:52.
