DETROIT (11/1/2016) -- The legendary status of wearing the capital C will be bestowed upon two members of the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team as juniors
Charlie Hayes and
Pat Masterson received the honor for the upcoming season.
Both have been key members of the Titan defense since they arrived on campus.
"This is a great honor for two individuals that have demonstrated to their teammates and the coaching staff their leadership role in this program," said head coach
Chris Kolon '09 (MBA). "These are two of the hardest working student-athletes that have ever been a part of this program and we all recognize how important leadership is to our success."
Hayes has played in 26 games in his first two years and has been one of the top defensive midfielders in the game. Last season, he tallied eight caused turnovers and 14 ground balls, all while scoring his first collegiate goal.
Masterson redshirted as a freshman, but has come back to be one of the top long stick midfielders in the league in 2015 and 2016 playing in all 26 games. He was second on the team with 26 ground balls and fourth posting seven caused turnovers last year. As a redshirt freshman in 2015, he was named to the MAAC All-Newcomer Team after recording 30 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
The Titans are currently getting ready for their spring 2017 season, the ninth year of varsity lacrosse at Detroit Mercy. The spring campaign will be released in the near future.
