DETROIT (2/13/2016) -- It was a Senior Day to remember as senior
Carlton Brundidge tallied his first career double-double and the Titans started the game on fire from the field in beating Milwaukee, 80-66, on Homecoming on Saturday.
Prior to the game, Detroit honored its two seniors in Brundidge and senior
Anton Wilson, one of the top three-point shooters in school history.
Brundidge ended the game with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Paris Bass posted a team-high 24 points with 10 rebounds for his second-straight double-double and junior
Chris Jenkins registered 17 points and four boards.
Detroit (13-12, 7-7 HL) hit eight of its first 11 shots and never trailed in the game against Milwaukee (16-10, 7-6 HL).
Detroit started the game red-hot hitting eight of its first 11 shots from the field. The Titans scored six in a row to start the game as Hogan had back-to-back baskets and Jenkins slammed one down. UDM then led 11-2 as Bass had a basket and Jenkins connected on his first trey of the game.
The Titans later opened a double-digit advantage as Jenkins buried a three and Bass ignited the crowd on a dunk for a 20-8 lead at the 13:08 mark. The red, white and blue continued to lead by double digits and led at the half, 44-29.
Detroit shot 55.9 percent (19-of-34) from the field, including 5-of-10 from distance in the opening 20 minutes. UDM also controlled the boards, 22-17, and dominated in the paint 22-8.
The second half was more of the same as the Titans held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Brundidge soared for a rebound and tipped it in for a bucket and then the next time down the court, he nailed a jumper and Detroit was on top by 18, 57-39, with 13:28 left.
Milwaukee would cut it to nine, 64-55, but Wilson hit two free throws and freshman
Josh McFolley hit a layup to push it back to 13, 68-55, at the 6:12 mark. Another small Panthers' spurt cut it to nine again, 70-61, with 4:10 remaining, but sophomore
Jaleel Hogan ended the Panthers' run with another basket in the paint and that ended all hopes of a Milwaukee comeback.
Hogan ended the contest with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Bass, Wilson and junior
Jarod Williams all handed out three assists and Jenkins recorded a pair of steals.
Detroit was 34-of-64 (53.1%) from the field and held Milwaukee to 32.8 percent (21-of-64), including 8-of-31 (25.8%) from three. The Titans also outrebounded the Panthers, 41-35, and owned the paint, 46-18.
The Titans will now end the regular season with four straight on the road starting with Northern Kentucky on Tuesday.
