ARLINGTON, Tex. (2/14/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy dropped its final game, 11-5, to UT Arlington on Sunday morning from the Lone Star State.
The Titans fell behind early after giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first. The Mavericks added five more in the third, before Detroit stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Sophomore
Savvy Ferstle got the rally started with a two-run bomb that put Detroit on the board, before back-to-back hits from
Christa McGahuey and
Jennifer Cottle put runners on base. The Titans manufactured another run before a two out, 2-RBI single by
Jordan Manno capped a five run inning for Detroit that pulled UDM within two at 7-5.
The Titans would get no closer as the bats went silent and the Mavericks added two in the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the 11-5 win.
Ferstle led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance with the homerun and two RBIs. McGahuey went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Manno went 1-for-1 off the bench with two RBIs.
McGahuey started in the circle for Detroit and was tagged with the loss after allowing two early runs.
Alexis Robison-Kohrs threw two innings in relief, followed by
Keaira Schilling with 4.1 innings.
The Titans fall to 1-4 on the young season with the loss, while UT Arlington improves to 6-0 with the victory.
Detroit takes a brief break before returning to action in the Tennessee Chattanooga Tournament next weekend. The Titans begin the road trip against IPFW on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.
