Location: Greensville, S.C. (Paladin Stadium)

GREENSVILLE, S.C. (4/10/2016) -- Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Wandelt scored a career-high six goals, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped its first Atlantic Sun contest of the season, 14-12, at Furman on Sunday afternoon.

Detroit trailed 14-9 late in the second half, but rallied, scoring the final three goals of the game. Wandelt scored two of those goals, the final one coming as time expired in the contest. Kelsi Pritchard and Morgan Girardi each added two goals for the Titans, while freshman Lexie Kinmond finished the game with four points (one goal, three assists).

In net, freshman goalkeeper Allison McDonough made nine saves for Detroit (6-5, 1-1 A-Sun).

The first half was a back-and-forth battle and the game was tied on five different occassions in the opening 30 minutes. The Titans opened the game strong, scoring the first two goals as Wandelt and Girardi each converted on their free position attempts. After Furman scored two goals, Kinmond found the back of the net off a feed from sophomore Jordyn Beam.

Furman (8-5, 3-1 A-Sun) would take a 5-4 lead, but Detroit had answers each time as Wandelt found the back of the net from Kinmond to tie the game 5-5. Pritchard scored with 2:42 before the break to knot the game again, 6-6, but the Paladins beat the halftime buzzer as Ashley Trice scored just three seconds before the break.

Detroit trailed at the break, 7-6, and after Furman scored first in the second half, the Titans answered for the next three goals to go up 9-8. Pritchard opened that stretch with her second of the game, followed by Julie Castner's third marker of the year to tie the game, 8-8. Wandelt then scored her 30th of the season to give Detroit a 9-8 edge.

The Paladins would scored the next six goals to take a 14-9 advantage with 10:04 left. Detroit's late rally was three goals in the final 3:04 of the game.

Wandelt finished with six goals (three in each half), seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. Kinmond added two caused turnovers, while sophomore Brianna Plester and Girardi each collected two draw controls for the Titans. Wandelt led Detroit with three ground balls, while senior Kylie Birney, Girardi and sophomore Lauren Webley all added two ground balls for the Titans.

Detroit was out-shot in the game, 30-25. Each team finished with 13 draw controls, Detroit corralling nine of those in the opening half. The Titans had the advantage in free position attempts, 8-3, and also made more saves than the Paladins, holding a 9-5 edge. UDM was 11-of-14 on clear attempts.

The loss snapped Detroit's program-record six-game win streak. The Titans had not lost in more than one month before Sunday's defeat.

Titan News & Notes
• Wandelt became just the third freshman in Titan history to surpass the 30 goal plateau and first since Emily Boissonneault and Anna Eidem did so during the inaugural season of Detroit women's lacrosse in 2009.
