Titans Fall to Jacksonville on Sunday

DETROIT (4/17/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped its second Atlantic Sun contest of the season on Sunday, falling to visiting rival Jacksonville University by an 18-6 margin from Titan Field.

The setback evened Detroit's record at 2-2 in conference play, while the Titans fell to 7-6 overall. Jacksonville, the league leaders coming into the contest, improved to 6-0 in the Atlantic Sun.

The Titans struck first in the contest as freshman Lexie Kinmond ripped home a shot on a free-position opportunity. JU would go on to score the next six markers before the Titans countered with a run of their own as senior Michaela Schwartz scored off a pass from sophomore Brianna Plester.

Kinmond then scored her second of the game to cut the Jacksonville lead to 6-3 with 6:41 left in the first half. The Dolphins scored the final three goals in the opening half to hold a 9-3 halftime advantage.

The Titans came out strong once again in the second half again scoring the opening goal of the half. Sophomore Kelsi Pritchard scored her first of two goals in the game to cut the JU lead to five, 9-4, just 4:24 into the half. Pritchard scored two goals in the second half, the second of which came off an assist from freshman Kaitlyn Wandelt.

The Dolphins increased their lead to 15-5 with 11:48 left to play before Wandelt scored her team-leading 37th goal of the season on a free-position chance.

Jacksonville had the shot advantage in the game, 39-17. Detroit finished the game with an edge in ground balls, 18-17, while JU scooped up 17 draw controls to Detroit's nine.

Sophomore Lauren Webley spearheaded the Titan defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, all in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Allison McDonough made 11 saves in goal for the Titans, her fifth game of 11 or more saves this season. McDonough added three ground balls, while senior defender Ally Shrader added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Kinmond continued her team-best goal streak of 13 goals with two markers. Pritchard also notched her fourth game of the season of two goals. Sophomore Jordyn Beam led Detroit with a career-best three draw controls, while Wandelt and Plester added two draw controls each.

The Titans return to the road next weekend, visiting Mercer for a Friday, April 22 contest in Macon, Ga. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. ET. Detroit then visits Kennesaw State on Sunday, April 24 with a 12 p.m. start time.
