AUSTIN, Tex. (8/28/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Texas from Mike A. Myers Stadium on Sunday afternoon from the campus of the Longhorns.
The Titans were organized defensively and hung with the Longhorns for much of the match. The game was scoreless with one second remaining in the first half when Texas sent a ball from midfield towards the box and after a deflection, the ball trickled into the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break.

th minute, Texas was awarded a free kick from 18 yards at the right edge of the box and sent the ball in through traffic before a redirect off a defender navigated into net, giving the Longhorns a 2-0 edge. The Longhorns added their third goal in the 73
rd minute with a header off a post that spun itself in.

Anna Mindling erased Texas' clean sheet with a bullet into the top of the net on a breakaway in the middle of the field. Mindling led the Titans with a pair of shots, while her goal gave her two during the two-game stay in the Lone Star State.
Despite the result, the Titans hung tough with the Longhorns and looked organized defensively against Detroit Mercy's second Big 12 opponent of the season. The back line contributed several blocks from tight scoring chances to keep the Titans in the match.
The Titans held the edge in corner kicks, 4-1, while Texas outshot Detroit Mercy 18-4.
With the loss, Detroit Mercy falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Longhorns improve to 2-1.
The Titans continue their four-game road swing at Bowling Green on Sept. 1, before heading to Toledo on Sept. 4.
