BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (9/1/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat on the road Thursday night at Bowling Green State University.
The Titans were shutout for just the second time this season, with the lone goal of the match going the Falcons' way off a set piece early in the second half. The marker came off the head of Maureen Kennedy in the 51
st minute, with the redirect catching the back right corner after a cross into the box.
Detroit Mercy generated several scoring chances in the match, but put just three looks on net. Freshman
Casey Couturier came off the bench to lead the team with two shots on target.
Couturier had a look at goal in the closing minutes, but the Falcon keeper was able to make the save and preserve the clean sheet.
Junior
Marina Manzo was tagged with the loss despite facing 14 shots and making six saves.
Bowling Green held the advantage in shots (14-7) and shots on goal (7-3), while the Titans held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
With the win, the Falcons snapped a four-game losing streak to Detroit Mercy and improve to 4-8 against the Titans all-time.
Detroit Mercy falls to 1-3 with the loss, while Bowling Green improves to 3-2.
The Titans are back in action Sunday at Toledo. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. from Scott Park and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
